World War 2 is over--- What do we, The USA, do now???
THE USA IS NOW THE MOST POWERFUL NATION IN THE WORLD!
Most of the rest of the world is destroyed by war—WE WILL MAKE AN EFFORT TO REBUILD MOST OF IT…
Who is this Harry S. Truman guy anyway—What happened to FDR? He was elected President 4 times---1932, 1936, 1940, & 1944
What are we, The USA, going to do without FDR—he got us through the Great Depression & WW2--- Are we going to return to another “Great Depression” now that World War 2 is over? What will a Post War World be like?? Change is coming, what does it mean for the individual Citizen…. It depends, of course
-So as we examine this last piece of American History we will begin by going back and forth from the effects of WW2 and into a post war world… The USA will never again listen to GWs Farewell Address in the same way—no more ISOLATIONISM… We, the USA, do not repeat the same mistakes of our Post WW 1 world—retreating into ourselves ---We now take up the role OF WORLD LEADER—FROM DAY 1 AFTER THE END OF WW2---What will this mean for the USA AND ITS CITIZENS AND THE CITIZENS OF AN ENTIRE WORLD???
- We CONTINUE a “moral diplomacy” [Good v. Evil] which began in 1917 with Woodrow Wilson’s 14 points, “Peace without Victory,” and “To make the World safefor Democracy.” WW1 & WW2 are fought against EVIL—How will we portray our battle against the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (U.S.S.R-russia is just one of the Soviet Republics) – of course, it is a battle between GOOD AND EVIL… “Moral Diplomacy” continued… The Cold War will be fought for he hearts and minds of the World’s Citizens—from 1945 until the early 1990s and the ultimate collapse of THE SOVIET UNION (communists)---Americanism v. Communism –Good v. Evil--- Christian v. Atheism—Democracy v. Totalitarianism—Freedom v. Oppression--- From Harry S. Truman until George W. Bush the USA will be committed to the CONTAINMENT***(POLICY) OF THE USSR!!!
AT HOME—
We will experience dramatic forces that will demand change (it will be resisted)---15 million soldiers returning to the workforce--- will the Great Depression start right back up again now that WW 2 is over??? -- Will the Federal Government-- grown to huge proportions and a bedrock for our economy-- continue to be so large and so powerful???? Who is this Harry S. Truman guy anyway---does he have the ability to guide us through these amazing and SCARY challenges that lie ahead… How does our fight against the Soviet Union for World Domination affect us here at home??? How does our Moral Diplomacy—our fight against the USSR—Good v. Evil –affect CIVIL RIGHTS AT HOME---for our, The USAs, many citizens… How will Technology impact our lives and our work??? How will our daily lives change---Movement---work—school—etc… Suburbs, Sunbelt, Drive-ins, TV, Conformity, Conflict, Fear of Nuclear Holocaust, Baby Boom, some how we will make sense of this post-war world—sometimes very slowly and sometimes it will be forced upon us…
The immediate post-war era, under Harry Truman then into the 1950s under “Ike” Eisenhower will make us who we are today—our expectations of unlimited potential for the future—THE AMERICAN DREAM will become an expectation due to our AMERICAN EXCEPTIONALISM--- but… it does not come easy at times---Will this EXCEPTIONAL DREAM is become a REALITY for all Americans…we will see
BY 1965 THE USA CONTROLS OVER 40% OF THE WORLD’S WEALTH WITH ONLY 5% OF THE WORLD’S POPULATION—(easily the greatest period of economic growth in world history and it is still with us today (although now at around 33%)
