Appointment of a Member of the Board of the Scottish Environment Protection Agency

The Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform, RoseannaCunninghamMSP, today announced the appointment of NicolaGordon as a Member of the Board of the Scottish Environment Protection Agency.

NicolaGordonis a Chartered Engineer and spent many years working for Shell in the international oil and gas business. She has developed and implemented strategy, partnered with government in Denmark and Norway and led business improvement programmes. MrsGordon was the first woman in Scotland to earn a Master’s degree in Petroleum Engineering. She led teams running the UK’s iconic Brent field and Norway’s giant Ormen Large Development. MrsGordon is Chair of the Strategy Advisory Board at Heriot-Watt University’s Institute of Petroleum Engineering, a Member of the Board of Arts & Business Scotland, Vice Chair on the Board of Edinburgh Printmakers and Executive Vice President of the Scottish Oil Club. MrsGordon is currently Lay Chairing Member to the Judicial Appointments Board for Scotland.

Appointment

The appointment will take effect from 1January2018 and will run for fouryears until 31December2021.

The time commitment is between a minimum of 24days and a maximum of 30days per yearand attracts remuneration of £276.30per day.

The appointment is regulated by the Commissioner for Ethical Standards in Public Life in Scotland.

Other Ministerial Appointments

MrsGordon is currently Lay Chairing Member to the Judicial Appointments Board for Scotland. The appointment is for fouryears and runs from 1May2017 to 30April2021. The appointment attracts remuneration of £350.00per day for a time commitment of around 50days per year.

Political Activity

All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public.

MrsGordon has had no political activity in the last fiveyears.
