Core Strategy

Role: The core strategy sets out the vision, objectives and strategy for the spatial development of the borough, and policies for the protection of the town’s historic and environmental assets. It includes a suite of strategic core policies and a suite of generic development control policies, which will provide the criteria against which planning applications for development will be considered.

These allocations will cover housing, employment, mixed use, retail and leisure and transport uses. It sets out site specific policy issues for the determination of planning applications.

Geographic coverage: Town Centre, Greater Middlehaven, Riverside Park, East Middlesbrough industrial estates, strategic urban extension to south Middlesbrough, Middlesbrough College sites (Kirby, Prissick, Longlands and Acklam) and housing market renewal sites, such as, St Hildas, Whinney Banks, Grove Hill, Hemlington and North Ormesby.
