AP BIOLOGY HUMAN IMPACT PROJECT

Unfortunately, humans have disturbed the existing ecological balance, and the results are far-reaching. Soils have been eroded, waters have been polluted, and species have decreased in number among various other effects on our Biosphere. The potential consequences and causes on environment decay are listed below. The purpose of this project is to make you aware of the effects on the ecology of our planet, prepare you for the AP Biology exam and to hopefully spur your interest in conserving our planet for yours and future generations.

PROJECT REQUIRMENTS:

Work in groups of 2

Review a minimum of 3 articles/sources related to your topic (APA format)

Summarize and analyze the information- should include

• A description of what the impact is and its specific cause and specific effect
• A description of multiple effects that come from the impact
• include ecological vocab/relationships that are disturbed- food chain/web
• include biotic and abiotic effects
• A specific Biome or location your topic impacts
• A specific biogeochemical cycle affected
• Inclusion of impact on 4 big ideas of biology
• A description of at least two things that could be done to minimize the impact on the environment. This should include at least one financial/political ramification of the issue you selected.
• Pictures (with hyperlink reference citations).
• References to at least two sources where people can learn more about the impact (NOT Wikipedia) (any other multimedia source is good too…videos, movies, foundations, song lyrics).

Grading Rubric:

• Presentation (of your choice), typed, APA format for cited page, sent by email to
• Make sure you include details and specific examples, not just broad statements; minimum of 5 cited sources (3 of which must be articles/websites/books and NOT pictures);
• Oral Presentation- At least three minutes per person (6 minutes per group)
