Essential Information

What

A Boy Scout HAUNTED WOODS is a FUN FALL event. Mother Nature does not always cooperate very well, and Troops and Crews need to BE PREPARED for any weather. Boy Scout Troops and Venturing Crews will compete against each other to create SPOOKY and FUN stations. These stations could be a Spook, Craft or Hospitality Station. Stations will be assigned by Haunt Chairs on a FIRST REQUEST/ FIRST RECEIVED basis. Submit the Station form to the Haunt Chair for your camp location.

Troops and Crews will be creating Haunt Stations for Cub Scouts and families. NO GUNS, REAL CHAIN SAWS, OR REAL KNIVES will be allowed as props. Acceptable props include: plastic knives and axes, toy chain saws, Nerf guns WITHOUT ammo. Cub Scouts and families will be given flags. If a flag is raised, Scouts will immediately STOP what they are doing and adapt to the situation.

New this year! If you hand out food, you MUST have a trash can at your haunt station and MUST practice Leave No Trace. If it came from your haunt and ended up in another, you are responsible for helping to clean it up.

Several trophies are to be awarded! Stations will be judged by the participants and by a panel of judges for originality, creativeness, theme appropriateness and fun! Stations may receive BONUS points for Scout Spirit, teamwork and patrol method during the set-up of stations. Scouts are expected to be in Uniform or Halloween Costume.

Trophies will be awarded at Saturday Night’s Cracker Barrel.

Units must provide materials for stations and all other meals and snacks except for Saturday's cracker barrel.

At each Haunt Station, the following items are required for eligibility for the competition:

  • Unit Station Sign: Please include your station number, unit number, home city, etc.
  • Poster Board available Friday Night(courtesy of Manchester Industries)
  • Scout Spirit and Patrol Method

Note: Each station must be staffed by Scouts and have Two-Deep Adult Leadership during Cub Event hours.

Early bird registrants may request specific stations of Haunt Chairs on a FIRST REQUEST/ FIRST ASSIGNED basis. Submit the Station Request form to the Haunt Chair for your camp location. Station Request forms can be found on the Resources tab on the event page.
