Algebra 2, Bellman, Bragg, Charles, Hall, Handlin, Kennedy;Prentice Hall Mathematics

Topics in the First Semester Includes:

  1. Tools of Algebra 2: solving equations, inequalities, using linear models
  2. Function Families: characteristics, parent functions, transformations, comparing functions
  3. Solving systems of equations and inequalities: by graphing, by substitution, by elimination, linear programming, systems of equations with non-linear equations.
  4. Quadratic equations and functions: proving properties, transformations, factoring, solving quadratic equations using the quadratic formula, complex numbers
  5. Polynomial Functions: properties, transformations, solving higher degree equations, operationg with polynomials

Classroom Behavior and Attendance Expectations:

  1. The Student Code of Conduct is always in effect: no coats, hats, electronic devices, food or drink in class.
  2. There will not be any passes in the first or last10 min of the class, and no passes without your planner.

  8. You are to remain seated until the bell rings.

Notes , Homework and Participation:

  1. Notes and examples will be given daily. Taking good notes will help with homework and when studying for quizzes and tests.

  4. SLOTS ( bell work) will be assigned daily.

Quizzes and Tests:

  1. Slot Quizzes will be given every Friday
  2. Quizzes will be given frequently, with points to vary.

Every day homework and worksheets will be posted on iblog:

Student Evaluation and Grading Procedures

Assessment will fall into two categories:

Summative: assessment that measure mastery of the objectives in a unit: chapter tests or projects

Formative: Assessments that measure learning along the way: bell work, homework, class work

and quizzes

Formative assessments together will count as 20% of the student’s final grade and summative assessments together will count as 80% of the student’s final grade.

Grading scale:

93-100A 73-77 C

90-92A- 70-72 C-

88-89B+ 68-69 D+

83-87B 63-67 D

80-82B- 60-62 D-

78-79C+ 0-59 E

Academic Dishonesty:Cheating is an automatic zero. A grade of zero will be given to all involved, with absolutely no chance of a make-up.

Extra Help:

Extra help is available and welcome after school in room 211 every day with prior notification.
