Position Summary:

The Director of Human Resources provides leadership over the human resources practices and objectives to promote a high performance culture that emphasizes empowerment, quality, productivity, best practices,and goal attainment. Trident United Way is looking for a strategic, communication-focused leader to guide current systems and to provide leadership over a high-functioning human resources department.

The Director of Human Resources is responsible for the overall strategic focus, administration, communication, and evaluation of the Human Resources function. The major areas directed are:

  • Strategic Human Resource Initiatives
  • Human Resources Compliance
  • Recruiting and Staffing
  • Compensation and Benefits
  • Talent Management
  • Employment Relations

The direct reports for this role include the HR Specialist and the Receptionist/Administrative Assistant.

Essential Responsibilities and Functions:

Strategic Human Resource Initiatives

  • Working with the CFO and Senior Team, develops, communicates and evaluates human resourceinitiatives that support organizational strategic goals and objectives.
  • Develops, maintainsand disseminates organizational policy and procedures including the employee handbook, supervisor protocols, and hiring procedures. Effectively communicates policy and procedure changes and ensures proper compliance is followed.
  • Participates on committees and special projects to include leading project team work regarding human resource initiatives.
  • Recommends and oversees implementation of appropriate systems to provide the best balance of efficient utilization of staff resources and services offered to employees.
  • Leads and/or provides oversight for implementation of human resource key performance objectives within the organization’s strategic plan.

Recruitment and Staffing

  • Manages recruitment processes including management of strategies to find, qualify and hire top talent; oversees new employee orientations and onboarding processes.
  • Develops, evaluates and recommends job descriptions and position classification specifications in coordination with supervisors and senior team.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Oversees the administration and review ofan employee benefits and compensation program that attracts and retains high performing employees within budgetary parameters. Manages and administers third-party administrator contracts.

TalentManagement

  • Oversees a professional development and training program for all employees.
  • Administers an employee performance management system.

Human Resources Compliance

  • Ensures federal and state regulatory compliance for HR related matters. Oversees and/or prepares required federal and state labor reports.
  • Consults with legal counsel as appropriate and/or as directed by seniorteam.
  • Oversees maintenance of department records and reports.
  • Maintains knowledge of industry trends and employment legislation in order to advise senior team as needed.

EmploymentRelations

  • Supports senior team and works directly with division and department heads to assist them in carrying out their responsibilities on personnel matters.
  • Provides a broad range of consultative services to all levels of employees regarding policies and procedures.Facilitates communication among employees and management.Guides, advises, and responds to managers on problem solving, dispute resolution, regulatory compliance and litigation avoidance.
  • Responds to and facilitates resolution to employee relation issues such as employee complaints, harassment allegations, and civil rights complaints.

Other Essential Responsibilities

  • Supervises Human Resource Department staff

Required Skills:

  • Demonstrated leadership ability, team management, and interpersonal skills.

  • Broad knowledge of employment law, regulations and human resource management principles and practices.
  • Broad knowledge of benefits and compensation programs including health and 401(k) plan administration.
  • Broad knowledge of organizational planning and development.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and computer skills including Microsoft Office
  • Effective interpersonal and coaching skills.
  • Demonstrated prioritization and time management skills.

Required Education and/or Experience:

Education is flexible based on years’ experience in human resources. The ideal candidate will come with one of the following backgrounds: Bachelor’s degreewith 7 years human resources experience; Master’s degree with 5 years human resources experience; 10 years’ experience in a human resources field or any equivalent combination of training, education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. Experience must include benefits administration, prior usage of an HRIS/HRMS system and a minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience. A PHR, HRBP, GPHR, SPHR, HRMP, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP or equivalent certification preferred.

Physical Requirements:

This job requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

Worker must frequently talk and hear and use typical office equipment.

Worker sits most of the time; routinely required to walk and occasionally travel by car.

Work Environment:

Primarily works in climate controlled office-based setting. Position may require worker to commute to offsite locations to complete business.
