To Our Members:

Another year is coming to a close and the holiday season is again upon us. It’s a good time to thank

the many kind individuals that help our community

to be a better place to live for people and pets.

  • Our generous members who literally keep our doors open every day with their financial support. Without you, we could not continue our mission to house homeless dogs & cats until they can be matched with loving, permanent homes.
  • Our wonderful caring & dedicated staff that care for the animals at our facility 365 days a year: Shelter Manager Maureen D’Addio, and assistants Melissa Martino, Karen Donnelly, and Jason Gray.
  • The Board of Directors who are responsible for the day to day function & long-term strategic planning, and fund-raising for Animal Haven:

President Annie McKeon, Vice President Liz Gallagher, Treasurer Michelle Morris, Assistant Treasurer Bobbie Parenteau, Membership Secretary Elaine Keith, Recording Secretary Chris Gagne, Public Relations Chairperson Eleanor Valley, Financial Officer Jeff O’Donnell, Property Officer Roland Parenteau, Doris Torre, Jane Yant, Lindell Northup, Arleen Jiskra, and Paul Morris.

  • All of our supportive volunteers whose genuine efforts impact the lives of orphaned pets every day.

Raffle tickets are enclosed for our

Holiday Raffle – drawing on Dec. 17.

Please stop by for the drawing and stay for an Open House and a Holiday Visit!

Refreshments will be served.

Thanks to the following who donated prizes: Stanley Tools & Terry Christensen, Panera Bread, Wal-Mart & Kathy Hemstock, Arleen Jiskra, Bob’s Discount Furniture, and

Our annual Holiday Fair is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year. Your support would be greatly appreciated – please stop by! A wide variety of crafts, handmade items, and gifts for everyone will be found, along with a homemade cookie sale, and refreshments are available to purchase. We still need donated new or craft items to sell, and homemade cookies (cookies need to be small to fit into coffee cans).

Please contact Chris if you can help.

INFO ON DOG FLU!

The strain of influenza that was attacking horses is now targeting dogs. The only guaranteed way to avoid this flu is to isolate your dogs from other dogs but animal experts do not feel this is necessary at this point since there are no cases in CT yet. Symptoms may minic kennel cough, and are the same as the human flu – fever, cough, runny nose.

Happy endings………..

In October a tiny black kitten named Doc hit the jackpot by going home to the Sallak Family. Lisa & Ken wrote to tell us that Doc has adjusted well and quickly took over their home. Don’t you love how kittens literally “move right in” and make a new place their own? They just sort of assume that the world revolves around them, and actually they are right! 

Doc knows he is now safe & loved with these good people and he is living happily ever after.

Second Dog by Lee Avery
Sometimes I look for traits in you
Of a little dog you never knew;
A dog that loved me all his days
And understood in special ways.
But that's not fair to you, you elf:
You're not a substitute, but yourself.
You've eased the loss, soothed the pain
And tugged my laughter home again.
Yet, puppy, at times I almost start
When your eyes recall him to my heart:
You'll never lack for love, it's clear
Because of him you're twice as dear.
