GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS

For Large Chicken, Bantam, Turkey, Waterfowl, Fancy Pigeons and Homer Pigeons.

1. All entries must be RECEIVED by Tuesday, October 25th. All entries must be paid in full before judging starts. Payment will be accepted at Show Officebefore judging starts.

2. Fees: Open Show, Junior Show, Pigeon and Egg entries are $4.00 each. Trio is $8.00. Late entries will cost .50 per entry more.

All fees must be paid prior to cooping in of birds. An Exhibitor Fee of $10.00 will be charged to all Adult Exhibitors, in addition to the $4.00 per bird/egg entry. Junior exhibitors do not pay the Exhibitor Fee (age 16 and under).

  • A standard egg entry may consist of three eggs. Please specify size(large, medium or small) and state colour: (white, brown, tinted, coloured or dark brown).Painted or decorated eggs are to be entered individually, one egg at a time. If your eggsare entered in the Marans Club Egg Show, please specify the variety on your entry form.

3. Payment can be made via Paypal in the “Payments” section of the website: Fees may also be paid at the show office prior to coop-in by cash or cheque. Please make cheque payable to: Canadian Heritage Breeds.

4. Use the Poultry or Pigeon Entry Form to list entries. Print off the blank form and complete it, then send it in to the email address or fax number indicated on the form. Telephone entries will not be accepted.

5. All entries must include Class Numbers, Breed, Colour, Variety, and Section.

BIRDS ENTERED IN THE UTILITY POULTRY CLASS MUST ALSO BE ENTERED IN OPEN OR JUNIOR SHOW. A SECOND ENTRY FEE WILL APPLY TO UTILITY CLASS ENTRIES.

6. If you are entering an exhibit which does not have a class listed in this booklet, please specify on the entry form and classes will be created as necessary.

7. All N.S.F. cheques returned will result in an automatic $25.00 service charge.

8. In making an entry, the exhibitor agrees to be governed by the rules and regulations.

9. As a precaution, exhibitors are encouraged to vaccinate poultry for I.L.T. at least 30 days prior to the show.

10. All entries must be clean and healthy. The committee reserves the right to reject entries suffering from illness, lice, mites or shown in an unfit condition, and can order the removal of those entries at any time.

11. All entries must be the bona fide property of the exhibitor at least 30 days prior to the date of the show.

12. No one except the officials of the show will be allowed to handle the exhibit without the permission of the owner. Any exhibitor caught tampering with or in any way injuring exhibits of any competitor will be disqualified.

13. The judge shall have power to withhold awards at his/her discretion and will be instructed to the effect that no award is to be given unless the exhibit is worthy. The judge’s decision is final.

14. Leg band information is not required for the Poultry.

15. Seamless numbered leg bands are mandatory for pigeons.

16. Band number must be entered on the coop card when caging pigeons if not previous given on entry form.

17. All birds will be judged in the class as written on the entry form.

18. No birds will be shown from flocks which have had an infectious or contagious disease for at least six weeks prior to entry closing date. Exhibitors who make an entry do so with the distinct understanding that they abide by this regulation, and guarantee that their stock has been free from disease for the period stated.

19. You may make substitutions within class provided the class and section remains the same as the original entry.

20. All specimens must be exhibited in their natural condition except for:All Old English Games, Modern Games and American Games Cocks and Cockerels - large and bantam -must be dubbed.

- Canada Geese, Mallard Ducks, Wood Duck and Mandarin Ducks can be pinioned.
21. The latest revised American Standard of Perfection and American Bantam Standard shall be the guide in all Poultry Entries judged.

22. All entries must be caged by 8:30 AM Saturday, November 3rd. Judging for all classes and species will start at 9:00 AM sharp.

Utility Class

The utility class is back again after a great success last year! The purpose of this class is to showcase birds that exemplify the statement, ‘standard type is productive type.’

This class is open to all large chickens, ducks, geese and turkeys. All birds entered should be good representatives of their breed and be free from disqualifications as laid out by the APA Standard of Perfection. No hybrid birds will be accepted. Birds can be entered as layer, meat or dual purpose.

All birds entered in the utility class must also be entered in the junior or open show. Entry fee $4.00 per bird.

Breeder Displays

CHB is excited to introduce a Breeders Display competition this year! Enter at least one Cock, Hen, Cockerel, Pullet and one trio in a variety. The more birds you enter in your variety the more points you may be able to rack up. If you’re an ABA member you will be pleased to note that Champ and Res Champ Displays are awarded an ABA Star when a minimum 10 displays are competing.

The following rules apply: All entries of a display shall be of the same variety and of the same breed. A display shall consist of five or more entries to be made up of not less than one entry in each of cock, hen, cockerel, pullet and trio classes. All display specials are awarded by points. All first places count 6 points, second places count 4 points, third places count 3 points, fourth places count as 2 points, and fifth places count as 1 point. All points count as double when won in a trio class.

Junior Showmanship

General Information:

Junior poultryshowexhibitorsare encouraged toparticipateinShowmanship, however it is not mandatory.Showmanship competitors are not requiredtohave birdsentered intheregular Juniorshowclasses.Birds used for Showmanship do not need to adherecloselyto breed standards, asin the general poultry show classes, as contestants arenot judged on theconformationof the bird, but on his/her general knowledge and breed-specificknowledge, plushandling skill. Using a mixed-breed birdis permitted.Large fowl chickens,bantam chickens or bantam duckswill beacceptedforuse in theShowmanshipclass.The bird should be in “show condition”meaningclean, healthy, well-featheredandfree from parasites.

Entry Fees:
There will be no entry or exhibitor fee charged for Junior Showmanship, but entry is required using the general poultry show entry form.

Scoring:
Scores will betallied out of a possible total score of 100 pointsusing a standardscore card. Prizes will be awarded to competitors withthehighesttotalscore achievedin the following categories:

  • Handling
    Contestants will be judged according to their ability tohold andhandle their bird withskill and confidence. This will be demonstrated to the judge by correctly removing the bird from the cage, examining the anatomy of the bird (ie: beak, toes, wings, keel) and returning the bird to the cage.
  • Knowledge testing
    CHBwill followthe guidelinesset out by Youth Exhibition Poultry Association (YEPA) at the Junior Level. Please refer to this sheet for sample questions:
  • Walking
    Contestants will walk their bird the length of a table to show their ability to control and maneuver the bird with a minimum of coaxing. Contestant may decline to participate in this test, and will forfeit the points for doing so.

Showmanship contestants are asked to dress neatly, be attentive and courteous, and remain professional throughout the competition. There is no dress codein placefor contestants.
