AHOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THEPINEWOOD PREPARATORY SCHOOL SPORTING CLAYSTEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE 2016 SOUTH CAROLINA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the members of the Pinewood Preparatory School sporting clays team of Dorchester County took top honors at the state competition held at Hermitage Farm near Camden on April 30, 2016; and

Whereas, to the delight of their loyal and enthusiastic fans, the Pinewood Panthers bested their nearest opponent, the MidCarolina Gun Club, by eleven points in the championship tournament; and

Whereas, the Pinewood senior varsity squad included Chase Abraham, Sonny Kay, and Clae Wyckoff, who together tallied 274 hits out of 300 targets and defeated all of their competition; and

Whereas, because sporting clays often determines a winner by a small number of missed targets, the elevenpoint spread was a noteworthy accomplishment; and

Whereas, the Panthers’ victory is all the more laudable because the team was competing against much larger schools as well as clubs; and

Whereas, garnering the school’s second state sporting clays championship, Chase Abraham led the team with a score of 93; Sonny Kay hit 91 targets; and Clae Wyckoff scored 90 for the Panthers. Although none of these scores marked a personal best, each team member’s high score helped to secure the victory; and

Whereas, the Partridge Creek Gun Club affords the Panthers’senior team a location to practice, practice which has paid off with securing other achievements, such as the Clinton House tournament victory and the first runnerup slot in the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources state skeet and trap championship; and

Whereas, in a sport that demandsexpertise and accuracy, Head Coach Pete Wyckoff and his skilled coaching staff maximized their own ability and training in sporting clays to produce a championshipcaliber team and teach these athletes lessons that will prove invaluable throughout life; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives value the pride and recognition that thePinewood Preparatory School Sporting Clays team has brought to their school and their community and look to hear of their future successin the days to come. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Pinewood Preparatory School sporting claysteam, coaches, and school officials for an outstanding season and congratulate them for winning the 2016 South Carolina State Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to High School Principal Babette Hamilton and Coach Pete Wyckoff.
