AHOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE MRS. SUSAN CHARLES OF CLARENDON COUNTY, ON THE OCCASION OF HER ONE HUNDRED FIRST BIRTHDAY, AND TO WISH HER A JOYOUS BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AND MANY YEARS OF CONTINUED HEALTH AND HAPPINESS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are delighted to learn that Mrs. Susan Charles, affectionately known as “Cousin Lou,” will celebrate her one hundred first birthday surrounded by friends and family on Saturday,May 10, 2014; and

Whereas, born on May 13, 1913, in the early part of the twentieth century, she has witnessed many remarkable social changes, technological advancements, and international developments that have spanned the globe from that time into the second decade of the twentyfirst century; and

Whereas, although she and her beloved husband, the late Paul Charles, never had any children, they loved their many nieces and nephews as if they had been their own; and

Whereas, besides apples, bananas, and oranges, her favorite foods include downhome green beans, tomatoes, and turnip greens; and

Whereas, she loves to play the piano and the organ, and her favorite songs are “Just Keep On Praying, the Lord Is Nigh,” and “I Want Jesus to Walk with Me”; and

Whereas, Mrs. Charles enjoys the weekly spiritual worship services held at Windsor Manor Nursing Home where she resides in Manning, and she is quick to share her smile and words of encouragement with everyone she meets; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to honor this daughter of South Carolina at the celebration of her centennialplusone birthday and join with her family and friends in congratulating her on reaching this extraordinary milestone. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

Thatthe members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Mrs. Susan Charles of Clarendon County, on the occasion of her one hundred first birthday, and wish her a joyous birthday celebration and many years of continued health and happiness.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Mrs. Susan Charles.
