LogiMAT 2015 in Stuttgart

Win-win situation for exhibitorsand trade visitors

For the first time, the industrygathering in Stuttgart will occupy seven out of the eight exhibition halls. The range of exhibitorsandthe informative accompanying programmehighlight solutions for the current challenges of Industry 4.0, resourceefficiency andintegration and flexibility. TradeWorld, the trade fair for modern trading processes, has been incorporated for the second time. It covers the e-commerce sector in particularand, with the range of exhibitorsandinformation on offer, acts as abridgebetweencommerceand intralogistics.

With more than 1,100 international exhibitors (+10%) from 27 countries, 85,000 square metres of exhibition space (+13%) in seven out of the eighthallsat theStuttgart Trade Fair Centreand 25 specialist forumsfeaturing more than 100 expertsfrom business andresearch,LogiMAT 2015 is not simply the most comprehensiveexhibition intheintralogistics sector in the history of theInternational Trade Fair for Distribution, Materials Handling and Information Flow. “Thehigh levelof demand from exhibitors, as a result of which we have succeeded in increasing exhibition space, with no vacancies, by a good 10,000 square metres, makesLogiMAT 2015 the front-runnerin the intralogistics trade fair calendar anywhere in the world,”says a delightedExhibition Director Peter Kazander, COO of EUROEXPO Messe- und Kongress-GmbH, Munich, organisersof LogiMAT. “With its range of exhibitors and information, LogiMAT offers a unique overview of current development trends and solutions for greater efficiency in the intralogisticsprocess chains.”In additionTradeWorld, the trade fair for modern trading processes which, in 2015, is linked for the second time toLogiMATcovers, with its exhibitors from the area ofretail logisticsand sixspecialist forums specificallygeared to the challenges ofmulti-channel trading, in particular thesubject areas surrounding e-commerce as a driver of development. “Despite theadditional hall occupancy, thanks to the building’s structure at theStuttgart Trade Fair CentreLogiMATremains the “short distances” intralogistics trade fair withfour mergedexhibition halls in twointerconnected wings,”states Kazander. “Thehall layout, clearly structured by industry segments, on the one hand gives trade visitorswith special interests selected points of direct contact; on the other, from an overall perspectiveLogiMAT offers auniquelycompact overview of the currentrange of productsandservices available in the highly diverse intralogistics sector.”

As aworking exhibition, information exchangeandthe most important industry gatheringin equal measure, under thetrade fair motto “Mastering complexity – Intelligent design for the future”LogiMAT 2015 will act as abarometer of trends for the “mental state”andinnovative capacityof the industry. What are the hot topics currently moving intralogistics? Whichproductinnovations, solutionsandrecommendations are being offered by the representatives of their industry segments? How does commercegear itselfto the logisticschallenges existing betweenprocurement, e-commerce andthe point of sale? From 10 to 12 February 2015,the exhibitorsand speakersat the specialist forumswill give the answers at LogiMAT 2015 and TradeWorld 2015 in Stuttgart. “Users want transparencyandefficiency in their processes in order to master growing complexityand – wherepossible – to turn it to advantage,” is how Kazander explains the trade fair motto. “In parallel with this, botheconomic development as well as the latestresearch approachesandthe ever shorter development intervals of theextremely wide range of technology sectors are having lasting effects onintralogistics. Any company investing now to reducecost pools, to improve processes on a continuous basisandto position itself as best it canamong the competition into the future, wants the investment certainty offuture-proofsystems.”

Dynamismand innovative capacityof the intralogistics industry

The driversbehindthesustainablealignment of businessenterprises have long been identified: the growing challenges posed bye-commerce, thefuture project Industry 4.0 andthe concept of the Internet of Things. The specialist forums at LogiMAT will go more deeply into these subject areas from a technicalandscientific perspectiveandhighlight requirements, objectivesandthe trendsbehind future developments. The guiding themes underlyingcurrent approaches to problem-solving in the intralogistics industry, as shown by thepre-show announcements of LogiMAT exhibitors, target, both as far as hardware and software systems are concerned, resourceefficiency, transparency, flexibilityand integration capability. “Thewealth of newideasmanufacturers have translated into products andsolutionssprings from the high level of dynamismandinnovative capacity of the intralogistics industry, which is largelycharacterised by medium-sized companies,”is Kazander’s assessment.“Many of these innovations are being presented to the international trade audience at LogiMAT for the firsttime. Particular importance is being given to optimised networking andthe intelligent integration of the latestdevelopments indigitalisation andtechnologies, for instance from the areas ofsensor technology, imagingor newcomposites.” This is because modern optoelectronic sensors, for example, such as those being shown by the companyDatasensorGmbH in Hall 5, Stand 5C01, in the shape ofits compactS100 series, only 20x32x12 mm in size, form the basis for many applicationsandautomationsystems in intralogistics.

Theadditional rangeof exhibits extends fromnew developments intugger trainsto the supply of production andworking areasvia newlabellingandcrane systems and current developments in the growth area of plastic pallets to the integration ofaugmented reality (AR) techniques, with which usersare given supporting information for instance on order picking sequences or articles and pick quantities via smart glasses directly during thework process. In the shape of vo-CE v.5, Itworks s.r.l. (Hall 7, Stand 7F64) is showing, for instance, the latest release of a suitable software solution for all mobile devices withAndroid operating systemsand Google Glass.

“In the process LogiMAT 2015 reflects theguiding themes of problem-solving approaches not only in its trade fair motto butequallywithits proven, clearly arranged hall layout by industry segments,” says Kazander. “This also shows flexibilityandintegration capability, providestransparencyandthereby conserves the personal resourcesof trade fair visitors.”

Accordingly, in thehallsof thenorth wingLogiMAT 2015 has concentrated exhibitors from the key intralogisticssegment of high-performanceandextremely innovativemechanicalandplant engineering and construction (Hall 1, 3 and 5) as well assoftware providersfor efficient warehouse andtransport management, processsimulation and optimisation (Halls 5 and 7). Incorporated into this isTradeWorld in the centre ofHall 5. In thehallsof the south wingopposite, suppliers of labelling, identification and packagingtechnology (Hall 4) along with all the well-known forklift manufacturers (Halls 6 and 8) will provide a complete overview of the latest developments in their industry segments. Withtheir exhibits andinnovations, the hall andshelf construction, materials handlingandstorage technology companies, operating equipment manufacturersandthe general contractorsandsystem providers will be focusing on optimumstorage space utilisationand increasing efficiency thanks to dynamic, partially andfully automatedmaterials handling solutions. Swisslog AG (Hall 1, Stand 1B51)is therefore showing the innovative compact storage system AutoStore. The modular compact storage system for light goodsconsists of analuminium grid that looks like achannel storage device tilted by 90 degrees. It is supplied via overhead rails bysmall, so-called robots (service vehicles) whichfacilitate highly dynamic from and to-bin transfer processes while offering a high space utilisation ratio.

On the stand of its sister company DLS Dynamic Logistic Systems B.V. (Hall 1 on Stand 1B41) BSS Materialflussgruppeis showcasing fully automatic high-performance systems for the high-speed order picking of packaging units (packages) with patented Flowpicker technology. The centrepieceof the Flowpicker systems is a so-called“flow channel store”, in which thepackages to be pickedare stored singly on several levels above one another in storage tracks. The system operates withoutrack feedersorshuttle vehiclesandis said to makepossible order picking capacitiesof up to several thousand picks perhour. At LogiMAT,Daifuku (Hall 3, Stand 3B40) is presenting, among other things, a pallet rack feeder (RF) that operates in alanewithashuttle rack withabearing loadof up to one tonne. Bedrunka + Hirth GmbH (Hall 3, Stand 3C21) is showing a video-supportedpacking assistance systemwhich can be controlled by opticalgesturesof the operator andthusspeeds up and makes the packing process more ergonomic for staff. At the same time, certain gesturesalso automaticallytrigger the print-out of accompanying documents, labelsanddelivery notesorthe nextpacking order, for example. The WalkLift System, being exhibited for the first time in Europe byBan-Air Storage Systems (Hall 1, Stand 1B62), amotor-operated liftingand transporthandling devicewith active safety zonesensorsintegrated in the storage rack by amast andbridge system, sees itself as an alternative to forklift or high-lift trucks. Inits exhibits, logistics automationspecialist Dematic GmbH (Hall 1, Stand 1H31) will be focusing – with the trade audience of TradeWorld in mind – onsolutions for theparcels business, e-commerceandthe retail trade.

Flexibility, transparencyandimprovedintegration

With its wide-ranging spectrum of exhibitors, TradeWorld, the trade fair for modern trading processes,is living proof of howclosely trading processesandintralogisticsare nowintertwined, how they interlock with one another and mutually control each other’s activity. Service providers such as contractlogistics specialistDachser (Hall 5, Stand 5G04) will be providing insights into value added services such asdisplay construction, returns management, sleeving orpackaging. The DrescherGroup (Hall 5, Stand 5F39), one of Europe’s leading print service providers, will showcase its service offerings around the theme of “Label solutionsand systems for logistics”. In the shape of Acteos FPS, IT provider Acteos GmbH & Co. KG (Hall 5 Stand 5F41) has developed multi-level forecasting software forinventory optimisation andsales planning aswell asprocurementandreturns management, which can be used directly at the POS, in the central warehouseor in the e-commerce area. FlexiRobots GmbH (Hall 5, Stand 5, 5C25), a general contractorand single source provider for turn-key plant in retailing logistics, is presenting to the international trade audience for the first time at TradeWorld the novel system concept of a fully automated, shelf-basedstorage system which manages without conventional materials handling technology.

“Without exception, these are systemsandsolutions designed for greater flexibility, transparencyandfurtherimprovements in horizontal or vertical integration,”is how Exhibition Direction Kazander sums things up. And these characteristics also identify the range of solutions offered by IT providers in “Software Hall” 7. In the shape of the “active mobile”app, active logisticsAG (Hall 7, Stand 7C80) will be presenting an alternative to mobile data acquisition units (MDA), with whichfreight forwarderscan increase data quality in tracking and tracing. Drivers load the shipment data vialog-in orbarcode scan into theapp of their Android smartphone andthen driveusing theirsat nav direct to thedestination address. Theshipment status is recorded via thesmartphone andtransmitted directly to the scheduling department of thefreight forwarder. The solutionis of use,for example, tocarrierswhowork with varying subcontractors on long-distance transport runs, but would nevertheless like to offer their customers continuoustracking and tracing.

CIM GmbH (Hall 7, Stand 7C36) is showingan optimised “KPI cockpit”with integratedtraffic light function for itswarehouse management system ProlagWorld. Thecockpit pools togetherthe warehouse’smost importantkey performance indicators anddisplays them in graphicalform. In the process users can define threshold valuesin the dashboard which aremonitored at runtime. The trade fair presentation ofPSI LogisticsGmbH (Hall 7, Stand 7D76) focuseson currentreleases enabling the PSIwmswarehouse management system, for example, tooffer so-called adaptive scenario management. When defined key performance indicators have been reached, using these releases IT switches the systemsoverautomatically to an optimised type of operation such as, for example, high load, low load, night shiftor emergency operation, depending on the situation. Alongside this,an integratedwarehouse service broker with control over the warehouse management systemsof other sites offers universally transparent, holisticwarehouse management andprocessmanagement withinventory optimisation across all warehouses. Moreover,on the exhibition stand ofLogivations GmbH (Hall 7, Stand 7F03) “the world’sfirst interactive optimisation oflogistics networks from the cloud”will be on showin the shape of theW2MO logistics softwareenhanced by the internet-based geographicalmapping service Google Maps.
