Transition Arrangements

This qualification was republished in January 2018 to extend the last date for enrolment from 31 December 2017 to 31 December 2018and extend the last date of assessment to 31 December 2019.

This qualification has been reviewed and replaced by the New Zealand Certificate in Fellmongery and Leather Processing (Level 3) [Ref: 2486].

It is recommended that candidates currently enrolled in this qualification who will be unable to complete the qualification by the 31 December 2019transfer to the replacement qualification listed above.

It is the intention of Primary ITO that no existing trainee should be disadvantaged by these transition arrangements. Any person who considers they have been disadvantaged may appeal to the Primary ITO, below.

Purpose

This qualification recognises that the holder has a general understanding of the manufacturing stages associated with the production of leathers.

The holder of this qualification will also have general knowledge of the raw material types used in leather manufacture, aspects of quality control, pollution control, and chemical hazards.

The qualification is available at the Merit level according to the level of achievement of the standards.

The qualification is intended to give a general grounding for those not requiring detailed technical leather making knowledge and to provide a means of preparation for those who wish to move towards the National Certificate in Leather Manufacture Technology (Advanced) (Level 4) available with Merit [Ref: 0420].

Requirements for Award of Qualification

Credit gained for a standard may be used only once to meet the requirements of this qualification.
Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the purpose of award. The table of mutually exclusive standards is provided in section 7 of the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) Rules and Procedures publications available at
Reviewed standards that continue to recognise the same overall outcome are registered as new versions and retain their identification number (ID). Any version of a standard with the same ID may be used to meet qualification requirements that list the ID and/or that specify the past or current classification of the standard.

The qualification with Merit will be awarded to people who meet all of the above requirements and who achieve Merit in a minimum of four unit standards (please note that standard 8388 is not available for Merit achievement).

Candidates working towards any of the previous versions of the qualification may complete the requirements for that version or transfer their results to this version of the qualification.

It is anticipated that no existing candidates will be disadvantaged by these transition arrangements. However, anyone who feels that they have been disadvantaged may appeal to the NZITO who will consider appeals on a case-by-case basis.

All versions of this qualification will be recognised by the New Zealand Industry Training Organisation.

Previous versions of the qualification

Version 3 was issued to reflect the change of standard setting body responsibility from the Leather Industry Training Organisation to the New Zealand Industry Training Organisation.

Version 2 was issued to take account of the review of the Leather Manufacturing standards and the availability of Merit.

This certificate will display the logos of NZQA, the New Zealand Industry Training Organisation and the accredited organisation.

Quality Management Systems
