Using the English and maths assessment tool on Team

Background

From September 2015 onwards, all young people on the Team programme will be required to complete an assessment of their English and maths skills at the start and end of the programme, as a condition of funding from the ESFA.

To help partners manage this, The Trust has collaborated with bksb to develop a free, Team-centred diagnosticassessment tool which will be available to all Delivery Partners from September 2015. The assessment is available online and in paper-based format.

Using online assessments

How do partners gain access to The Prince’s Trust bksbLIVE 2account?

The Qualifications Team have ‘Administrator’ rights to The Prince’s Trust bksbLive account. Delivery Partners choosing to use online assessments will be allocated private groups within The Trust’s bksbLIVE account and given full ‘Tutor’ permissions. Tutor permissions allow partners to create learner logins and generate results reports.

Private groups

Delivery partners will be allocated private groups within The Trust’s bksb account based on Team location. For example:

Prince’s Trust College has two groups as they deliver team in two locations:

Group 1 – Kennington Campus

Group 2 – Poplar Campus

Private groups are created for partners to manage and store assessment results for team members at different Team locations, over the course of an academic year. For example:

Prince’s Trust College has 3 teams running at the Kennington Campus during academic year 15/16, therefore results for team memberson all 3 teams will be stored in the Kennington group until the end of the Academic year. The Trust will save and archive learner results from all private groups at the end of the Academic year (31st August).

How do partners request private groups?

Delivery Partners must email the Qualifications Team and copy in their local Prince’s Trust Executive to request a private group. The following information should be included in the email:

  • Delivery Partner name
  • Number of privategroups required, stating thelocation of each group. e.g group 1 ‘Bromsgrove’, group2 ‘Redditch’ and group 3 ‘Bournville’.
  • Names and email addresses of individuals who require ‘tutor’ access to private groups. E.g Team Leaders, Assistant Team Leaders, Delivery Partner Managers and Prince’s TrustProgramme Executives.

Once registered, partners will receive login details via automated email from bksb and can login using The Trust’s Unique URL:

Programme Executives shouldalso be added as tutors to private groups to supportdelivery partners and maintain an overview of assessment results.

Reporting to The Prince’s Trust

The Qualifications Team will monitor assessment results and national trends using the Administrator function of the bksbLIVE system. We will use results to identify best practice. Delivery Partners using online assessments do not needto submit results to The Qualifications Team separately.

Reporting externally

Delivery Partnershave full reporting permissions for their groups and can run a variety of reports which can be exported into Microsoft Excel and Word. Please see the bksbLIVE start guide and webinar for guidance on running reports.

Transferring results data to other bksb accounts

It is possible for The Trust to share results data with other existing bksb customers. If a partner would like to share their results with a college’s bksb system, they can request results are copied to another account at the end of Team. Partners who wish to make this request must email bksb directly with Gemma Mullan and their local Prince’s Trust Executive copied in to authorise.

Differentiating between teams in one private group

Delivery Partners will add new team members to their private groups throughout the academic year. To differentiate easily between teams, we highly recommend partners add the Team number to each young person’s unique username, for example:

NameSurnameTeam123

At the end of the academic year The Trust will remove and ‘Archive’ learners from each private group.

Checking assessments have taken place

Delivery Partners must ensure that all Team participants go through the assessment process (initial assessment, 1st and 2nd diagnostic assessment).Programme Executives should check online that all assessments have occurred before their week 3/4 visit and record this on the Team Review form (MS 5d and e).

Programme Executives should request to see a copy of the ‘Diagnostics Assessment Summary (working level)’report from the partner’s bksb group or a completed results records sheet. Results record sheets can be downloaded from Team Online.

Using paper-based assessments

How to access paper- based assessments?

Partners using an alternative assessment tool

Given the mapping of Team content to this new tool, and the free licences available from bksb, we expect all Delivery Partnersto use this tool. However, we recognise that some Delivery Partners will prefer an alternative assessment tool.

In these circumstances, we ask the Delivery Partner to inform the Qualifications Team via email with their local Prince’s Trust Executive copied in, and share their results with us at the end of each Team programme, using the results record sheet.

Reporting to The Prince’s Trust

Partners using an alternative assessment tool should report results to The Trust using the results record sheet and submit results to the Qualifications Team via email at the end of each Team programme. Results collated from alternative assessments will be added to national data.
