Functions of the SAC
The Specialist Accreditation Committee is established by Art. 29 of the Health Care Professions Act. 2003 Part VI (Chap. 464)
(a)to issue a certificates of Completion of Specialist Training in the specialities listed in the 5th Schedule of the HCPA, upon fulfilment of criteria recommended by the relevant professional associations listed in the fourth schedule.
(b)To advise the minister and the relevant council on issues concerning specialist training and registration and any other matter that may be referred to it.
(c)To act as the advisory body for training in any of the special areas of practice.
(d)To accredit post graduate training programmes
(e)To levy such fees for accreditation , as may be prescribed.
The Health Care Professions Act was enacted in November 2004
In February 2008 the provisions of Directive 2005/36/EC were adopted in the HCPA Act through legal notice 27/2008.

ORTHODONTICS
Orthodontics Assessment Report
The report of the Orthodontic Assessment Board was submitted in Jan 2011. The
Assessment Board was not yet set up according to the regulations not did it express an opinion for the promotion of the trainees. It was verbally stated at the meeting that the trainees had been promoted.

ORAL SURGERY
Assessment Dates of Oral Surgery
The first assessment will be held on October 2012 for all those trainees who are undergoing specialist training.

Applications for entry into the Specialist List of Oral Surgery
In February 2011 the Committee approved the application by Dr. Erika Ramona Segovia to be registered as a Specialist in Oral Surgery.
In December 2011 the Committee approved the application by Dr. Adam Bartolo to be registered as a specialist in Oral Surgery.
