Third and Fourth Grade News

My students are feeling pretty good. We just sent in our World Vision

gift today. The money bought two chickens, half of a sheep, mosquito

netting for a family, and supplies for an orphan. Also today, we Christmas

shopped for friends and family and made crafts and cards for the residents

at Grandview.

This week we've practicing our Christmas play. A few have small

speaking parts to memorize. Those who are in my class are: Olivia, Ben,

Ashton, and Makiah. If they haven't memorized them yet, please help them

learn their lines by next week.

Math: 3rd- story problems, 6 times table, 3 digit dividends

4th- metric prefixes, adding and subtracting mixed numbers

English: In our journals this week we wrote a paragraph with a topic

sentence and a closing sentence. We also discussed the purpose of indenting.

Bible: This week our memory verses were Matthew 10: 29-31. We read

orally and discussed Proverbs 19: 15-24. We'll be reading about the birth

of Jesus next week and memorizing James 1:19.

Science: soil ingredients- humus and minerals, earth as a magnet

I'm sending home ( attached to this letter) directions for an activity to do at

home- making crystals. It needs to be brought in at the beginning of the week.

Encourage them to do as much on their own as possible :)

Reading: 3rd grade- They are reading together Christmas Mystery from the

Cul- de- sac Kids Series. They are reading chapters orally as a group and

independently . There are questions to answer for each chapter. The fourth

graders are doing the same thing but with different books.

The planners are coming home at the end of the day, right? Any assignments

that need to be finished are being put inside the planner to go home. It seems

in class that the students are getting more comfortable using it. I hope it's

working at home.

Enjoy your weekend and your Christmas decorations.
