Toys for Tots/Donations for Itasca District #10 Families

“Through collaboration between school and community, we strive to foster an environment that promotes academic excellence and positive character, while accommodating the differences of our students in order to create lifelong learners.”

After School Reminder:

Parents, thank you for making morning drop off and afternoon pick up run so smoothly! It’s not an easy task to get hundreds of vehicles through this process. Reminder that after school activities should follow the same procedures. Please pull your cars through the parking lot across the street and pull up along Catalpa Street curb. This method has proven efficient and is safest for our students. Thanks again for your cooperation.

Toys for Tots/Donations for Itasca District #10 families:

Please see the insert regarding our community service project, Toys for Tots toy drive in conjunction with the Itasca Fire Department. It is a wonderful opportunity for our students to be able to donate to other boys and girls who are in need.

Hour of Code:

On December 16th students at Franzen will be participating in an ‘Hour of Code’. Students will learn the basics of computer coding while having fun manipulating familiar characters from Minecraft and Frozen to name a few. While this is a school activity please check into this at home as well. Please visit: code.org/learn

Winter Reading:

Parents, please see flyer below outlining our annual reading program, Six Flags Read To Succeed. Six hours of reading will earn a free ticket to Six Flags theme park in Gurnee, Illinois. Please encourage students to read daily over their winter breaks. We encourage students to read nightly for fifteen minutes. Thanks for your help!

Snowy and Cold Weather:

As a reminder, during snowy/cold weather, students will still be outside for recess. Please remind your children to dress properly for this type of weather! If students wish to play in the snow, they MUST have on: boots, snow-pants, gloves/mittens, and winter coats. As stated in the handbook, if the temperature or wind chill is at 20 degrees or lower, we will NOT go outside for recess.

Holiday Wishes:

In closing, please enjoy this holiday season with family and friends. Our family here at Franzen Intermediate School wishes all of you a healthy holiday and a wonderful start to your 2017! Please remember that we return on Tuesday, January 3rd.

Warmest Regards,

Mr. Jason R. Taylor

Dear Franzen Intermediate Parents,

During the weeks of November 30-December 13th, students in third through fifth grade will be taking the winter benchmark for the online assessment, iReady. This assessment evaluates reading and math skills and will be taken in the computer lab during the school day. This assessment should last 45-60 minutes and will be taken in the afternoon. Your child’s iReady results will be utilized by your child’s teacher to monitor growth and evaluate instruction for the future. Results from this year’s iReady benchmark assessments will be in your child’s report card envelope mailed in January. Please feel free to contact me at 630-773-0100 should you have any questions regarding this assessment.

Sincerely,

Jason Taylor
