Nia Regulations Governing Foreign Students Admission

TNUA REGULATIONS FOR ADMISSION OF FOREIGN STUDENTS

  1. The following rules do not apply to applicants who have overseas Chinese status or hold a passport from the Republic of China.

Those who have had dual nationality combining ROC nationality and foreign nationality may not apply for admission to TNUA for a period of eight years after the date on which their ROC nationality is revoked by approval of the Ministry of the Interior.

  1. Foreign students may apply for admission to TNUA once only. Those students who have been expelled from any university in Taiwan are not eligible through these regulations. If an applicant violates this rule, his/her admission will be cancelled or earned degree will be invalidated. Foreign students who have completed a degree program at TNUA or any university in Taiwan will be considered domestic students when applying for further studies.

※Foreign students who graduate from a school for foreign residents located in the Republic of China, or from a bilingual division (program) affiliated with a senior high school in the Republic of China, may use the graduation certificate received from such a school in applying pursuant to the provisions of Article 6 for admission to TNUA, and shall not be subject to the restrictions set forth in Article 2 or in Article 6.(Item 1, subparagraph 3.)

  1. The number of places open to foreign students is limited to ten percent the openings of domestic students.

※Where the preceding paragraph refers to the number of foreign students recruited, the figure shall not include foreign students not registered as degree students.

  1. Applicants must have basic proficiency in Mandarin Chinese. Candidates seeking application for undergraduate study at TNUA must have a high school grade-point average (GPA) above “C” or 70%. Students applying for graduate study at TNUA must have completed a bachelor’s degree with a GPA of “B” or 75%. GPA pertains to both overall study and field of concentration. If an applicant received a failing grade during high school or university, he or she will not be eligible for admission.
  2. The application period to TNUA is from December 1 to February 28. Approved candidates begin study the following fall; there is no spring semester entry. Students may apply to one department only. If an applicant misses the above-stated deadline, the application will be carried over and reviewed the following year thus delaying entry by one year.
  3. A complete application includes the following:

(1)Two completed application forms each with an attached photograph.

(2)Two notarized photocopies of the most recent school diploma from the applicant’s native country (either in Chinese or English).

(3)Two copies of the applicant’s complete transcript of academic records ( in English). The transcripts must be official and should be placed in an envelope sealed by the school that issues them.

(4)Two letters of recommendation.

(5)A copy of a hospital-issued health certificate that includes an HIV test report.

(6)Three copies of the applicant’s study plan written either in Chinese or English .

(7)A financial statement which proves that the student has adequate financial support for the duration of his or her stay in Taiwan.

(8)A sampling of the applicant’s previous work (i.e., written reports, slides, photographs, cassette or video recordings) according to departmental specifications.

(9)An application fee (NT$2,000).

  1. Applicants who satisfy the above requirements and successfully pass a personal interview must then take a test to show Chinese language ability. Those who score 60% or above on this examination will be accepted for enrollment to TNUA.
  2. Students are required to have basic health insurance. Those applicants who are not covered by a foreign insurance plan are eligible to apply for National Health Insurance.
  3. Students interested in applying for non-degree programs at TNUA must hold a ROC alien resident visas. However, admittance will be ultimately decided by TNUA. Accepted students will be issued a certificate of completion at the end of their studies.
