Work Experience

Since September 1, 2016 until April 9, 2017, Ihave served as full-time 12-hour night shift charge nurse at Canistota Good Samaritan Center. Duties include assessments, documentation, careplanning, nursing interventions requiring medication administration, treatments, blood draws for the lab, and ADL assistance; and evaluations.

From January 2014 until September 1, 2016, as certified nursing assistant program coordinator, consultant, and part-time primary instructor,I facilitated state-approved certified nursing assistant (CNA) program classes for the Oglala Lakota College (OLC) Allied Health department based in Kyle, SD. We utilized face-to-face physical classroom environment and synchronous televised programming, E-mail, FAX, and telephone communications for distant locations.I coordinated online testing and provided skills test observations for state certification examinations of CNA candidates.

From October 8, 2015 until June 6, 2016, I served asfull-time nursing manager at a 94-bed skilled, transitional care, and long-term care nursing facility (David M Dorsett Healthcare Community) in Spearfish, SD. Activities included admissions, discharges, assessments, care-planning, nursing care procedures, interdisciplinary communications, supervision of nursing staff, inpatient clinic nurse with MDs or CNP up to four days/week, documentation, infection control nurse position, and employee health screenings and immunizations.I worked 8 – 12-hour charge nurse shifts, as well.

From mid-August 2010 until mid-May 2015,serving as a full-time nursing instructor at Oglala Lakota College (OLC) Department of Nursing at Pine Ridge, SD; Ico-taught classes in Foundations of Holistic Nursing Care.I provided associate degree nursing program clinical activities instruction in college lab and clinical settings for first-year nursing students. Clinical settings included outpatient, obstetrics, medical/surgical, public health, nursing home, and community housing facility.As clinical instructor for the Holistic Maternal Child Nursing course, my activities included provision of nursing arts laboratory practice; pregnancy, delivery, postpartum and newborn hospital experiences; and virtual real life scenarios. I managed and monitored knowledge and skills testing of students. I instructed state-approved certified nursing assistant program classes for the nursing department.

As a seasonal charge RN at Aurora-Brule Nursing Home, White Lake, SD, during the summers of 2011 and 2012(between academic year classes), I worked night shifts. As a charge RN at Big Sandy Medical Center, Big Sandy, MT, I worked from July 2009 to June 2010 (FT). I was responsible to provide nursing care not only in the skilled nursing facility; but also in the attached rural emergency room and four-bed hospital.
