Job Title:Project Coordinator (Young People & Music)

Hours:22.5 hours per week. 2 year fixed term contract.To include up to 2 evenings per week with occasional weekend work as required by the programme.

Salary:Grade 3

Location:Knowle West Media Centre

  1. JOB PURPOSE

To develop and deliver programmes for young people and emerging musiciansin line with the KWMC Business Plan.To project coordinatetheweekly activityincluding, engagement and skills development workshops and activities for young people 10-25yrs as part of the music studio development, ensuring these plans are integrated within the wider KWMC programme.

  • A key role within the Young People’s Programme team, supporting a team of sessional youth workers, music tutors or creatives to deliver an engaging, innovative, inclusive and safe programme of Engagement and Skills development courses and activities both in schools and informally.
  • To recruit young people and emerging musiciansto these activities and the wider Young People’s Programme
  • To support young people and emerging musicians to develop their skills and talents
  • To inspire young people to participate in creative activity, express their views, work collaboratively to realise their potential
  • To work with young people to ensure they have an active role in the future management of the Young People’s Programme
  • To work within agreed budgets and report regularly as required against the funding requirements and evaluation plans (using KWMC process and systems e.g. planning form and database).
  • To support the development of the music studio e.g volunteers, sessional music technicians, wider creative access.

Accountable to the Programme Manager (Young People) and KWMC Trustees.

  1. MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To engage young people and young musicians from South Bristol in a programme designed to support and develop their skills, confidence and networks.

Jump Studio’s Music Programme

To co-ordinate, design and deliver uptotwo evening activities per week - or the equivalent thereof – at KWMC,local youth centres, or other places where young people meet, including the street and pop ups.

To build relationships with young people in the local area and increase their engagement with KWMC.

To coordinate events and CPD activities as part of the development for young people, emerging musicians and emerging/music leaders

To coordinate an annual residential for young people (including one all female residential)

To risk assess activities and oversee implementation of the health and safety and child protection procedures during the sessions

To liaise closely with local schools and build strong relationships that lead to partnership projects and co-delivery of engagement work

To develop local networks with the aim of providing progression routes for young people, creating effective sign posting and access to appropriate services, ensuring young people benefit from best use of local services

Working with the Programme Manager (Young People), and the wider YPP team to develop clear pathways for young people from initial engagement through to the rest of the Young People’s Programme

To work with the Young People’s Programme Team to contribute to the wider KWMC strategic marketing strategyand distribute marketing materials for the Young People’s Programme.

To support a strong social media presence for Jump Studios.

To take part in the wider planning, delivery and evaluation of Jump Studio’s activities

To work with the wider staff team to ensure integration with all aspects of the KWMC programme.

Volunteers and Associates

To engage new associates to support / deliver activities, tasters etc. for Jump Studio’s, ensuring that contracts are issued and DBS checks completed as and when required.

To support and mentor delivery assistants and associates including regular catch up meetings

To support and mentor interns, trainees and work experience students as required by the programme

To support volunteers within the workshop setting ensuring that they understand what they are required to do and comply with good working practice (KWMC policies and procedures, especially regarding Child Protection and Health and Safety)

To support the design and delivery of a work experience programme that ensures young people, students and emerging musicians gain valuable insights and have a quality and inspiring skills development experience

To work with the Programme Manager to secure future funding for young people’s programme and one off projects

The Music Studio and Live Room

To work with theYoung People’s Programme Manager, the Digital Skills Coordinator and wider KWMC teamto support the effective running of the Music Studio.

Accreditation

Ensuring the completion of Arts Award portfolios in line with funding requirements and coordinating Arts Award administration and moderation processes.

Special Projects

To work with the Programme Manager (Young People) and KWMC team to plan and deliver one off special projects.

Monitoring and record keeping

To undertake monitoring and evaluation (using KWMC project management systems and the database for recording outputs), agreeing key tasks that will ensure there is a comprehensive evaluation of projects that can be shared on the KWMC website and with interested organisations.

To keep thorough records of sessions and contact with young people.

To use KWMC internal project management systems and the database for recording outputs

General

To represent KWMC and promote its charitable aims and objectives

To attend and contribute to training or staff meetings as required

To abide by all policies and procedures of KWMC

Successful sustained involvement of young people in the Jump Studios and clear progression and talent development

More young people benefitting from KWMC music facilities andexperience to seek further skills training and/or employment

Identification of positive impact on young people’s learning and personal development as a result of participationin the Jump Studio’s MusicProgramme

Increased engagement of young people from the local Knowle West community regularly using and accessing the music studio, live room and participating in wider KWMC projects

6.COMMUNICATIONS AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

This role requires the post holder to deal with a wide range of stakeholders, from external commercial organisations, colleagues delivering other services within KWMC, and local communities. An integral part of the job role is to ensure all parties are informed, consulted and supportive of the development of the Young People’s Programme.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to develop and sustain excellent working relationships with young people
  • A passion for and active interest in music, digital media and new technologies
  • Workshop planning and facilitation skills
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills in order to deliver projects on schedule and meet targets
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent written, verbal and IT communication skills, and in particular ability to communicate with young people and advocate on their behalf
  • Ability to motivate others and work effectively as a team member
  • Able to effectively plan and deliver a programme of work, including supporting/ collaborating with associates, team members and volunteers
  • Able to keep up to date records of work, and complete reports as required for monitoring and evaluation purposes
  • Ability to build networks and partnerships with other organisations working to achieve similar aims
  • Ability to engage young people in social action and issues affecting their lives using music, digital media and new technology

Experience

  • Minimum of one year experience working with young people
  • Proven experience of planning, developing and facilitating workshops and project work on time and to a high standard
  • Experience of supporting young people in attaining out of school qualifications (Arts Awards)
  • Experience of supporting young people to access support and progression routes appropriate to their individual needs
  • Experience of coordinating small to medium sized events (e.g up to 40 attendees)

Knowledge

-Proven knowledge of access and inclusion issues in relation to work with young people

-Excellent knowledge of Child Protection and Health and Safety procedures

-Knowledge of issues that particularly affect young people

-Understanding of community development and issues arising in communities regarding young people

-An understanding of the local and regional Creative Industries Sector and the opportunities for young people within it
