Job Title:Phase 1 Teacher

The role description below is to be performed in accordance with the provisions of the School Teachers Pay and Conditions Document and within the range of teachers’ duties set out in that document.

Purpose of the job:

To manage the teaching and learning of all pupils, ensuring that all pupils develop their knowledge, understanding, skills and abilities within a secure, challenging and motivating educational environment.

To carry out such other associated duties as are reasonably assigned by or negotiated with the Director of Primary, Deputy Headteachers and/or member of the Leadership Team.

To meet the Professional Standards for Teachers.

Relationships:

The teacher is accountable to the Director of primary, Deputy Headteachers and/or member of the Leadership Team designated to co-ordinate the key stage in which the teacher carries out their main teaching duties and responsibilities.

The teacher will have high expectations of children and young people including a commitment to ensuring that they can achieve their full educational potential and to establishing fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and constructive relationships with them.

The teacher will hold positive values and attitudes and adopt high standards of behaviour in their professional role.

The teacher is a member of a team and is responsible for liaising with other team members to ensure continuity in planning and classroom management.

The teacher is responsible for the supervision and monitoring of the work and activities of ancillary staff and helpers working with the children in her/his class.

Team Responsibility:

The teacher will work as a team member and identify opportunities for working with colleagues, managing their work where appropriate and sharing the development of effective practice with them.

The teacher will ensure that colleagues working with them are appropriately involved in supporting learning and understand the roles they are expected to fulfill.

The teacher will work collaboratively in teams across the campus to improve teaching and learning.

There will be:

Particular responsibilities:

  • To teach, according to their educational needs, the children in her/his class the elements of the school curriculum as set out in the medium-term planning for the current period.
  • To plan, in liaison with other team members as appropriate, the delivery of the curriculum in the individual class context, in accordance with the school’s vision statements, and with particular reference to teaching style and classroom organisation for effective learning.
  • To maintain discipline in line with the school’s behaviour policy and procedure.
  • To contribute to meetings, discussions and management systems necessary to co-ordinate the school as a whole.
  • To promote equal opportunities within the school and to seek to ensure the implementation of the school’s equal opportunities policy.
  • To take responsibility for the care, use and organisation of teaching materials within the classroom, and to share responsibility for the care of teaching materials in common use.
  • To share the responsibility for maintaining health and safety within the school and classroom, according to the school’s policies and procedures, including ensuring proper supervision of children at play.
  • To promote and apply professional learning and other forms of support and development for teachers to learn and work together.

Key Tasks:

  • To create an attractive, stimulating well-organised classroom environment which will enable children to develop attitudes of independence and responsibility for their learning.
  • To monitor and report to parents on the progress of children in her/his class, this will include meetings outside of the school day.
  • To assess children’s achievement and progress in accordance with the school’s agreed systems and procedures.
  • To liaise with the SEN team on appropriate teaching strategies for children with special needs and the writing of individual education plans.
  • To mark class attendance registers and monitor absences and punctuality in line with the school’s agreed procedures.
  • To liaise with outside agencies regarding individual children’s needs.

General:
