SUMMER CAMP

MONDAY 30th JULY- 3rd AUG 2012

Camp for many children is the highlight of the Pony Club year. A mixture of horse-related activities and other fun activities. The members sleep in a large marquee while horses are stabled, penned or turned out in a field. Members bring forage for their animals but food and drink for the members & instructors are supplied.

There is a lot of intensive work associated with camp and help from older children and parents are always very welcome.

ALL PARENTS – must agree to do duty rota or pay the £50 fee for non helping.

FINAL DAY PRESENTATIONS will not take place until all ride sites and camp field has been cleared, the Hall and toilets cleaned, and all trailers loaded. Presentations are expected to take place after clearing away camp equipment. Dismantling starts at 12.30 pm onwards.

MAIN CAMP ENROLEMENT NIGHT.

TUES 19th June2012 . Cefn Village Hall. 7.30pm

This is an informal evening where parents and children get together and prepare for camp. You will need to bring your vaccination certificate, fees and riding hat to be tagged if it needs. You will have chance to discuss any aspects of camp that you need to. Duties need to be fine tuned and the various people in charge of those roles will be on hand. Iona usually brings her Tack Shop with her and there will be sweat shirts, manuals for sale. Members may also bring along any second hand tack and equipment that they have to sell.

PARENTS:

If you are going to be away from home at any time during camp it is ESSENTIAL that you leave an emergency contact with full written details of the person responsible for your child whilst you are away with the DC and a signed form permitting hospital treatment and anaesthetic in any emergency.

Whilst every effort is made regarding the safety of your child accidents do occasionally happen and someone has to be available to come and deal with them instantly.

Camp, is by and large run by volunteers. Helpers give up their time and often their hard earned holiday allocation to give your child a week of pony soaked fun and instruction. The onus is therefore on parents to do as many sessions of duties as possible, be it looking after ponies who are ‘on lines’ at breakfast and lunch time, preparing, serving and washing up after meals, night watch – which is a difficult spot to fill, but particularly at setting up and dismantling time at the end of the week. Some people will have been there full time looking after your children and their ponies. In these times of Health and Safety the running of camp gets harder each year, but the more help we have the better.

VETERINARY ATTENTION:

Should your pony in an emergency need any veterinary attention during camp week then Mr. Richard Owen MRCVS will be called out unless otherwise stated on your application form. Parents will also be contacted so that they can take charge of the situation. Parents on duty on the lines will only administer simple first aid in any situation. Parents will be expected to pay for any treatment their pony may need.
