DIARY OF FORTHCOMING EVENTS

FRIDAY 16 FEBRUARY: BARN DANCE IN THE PARISH HALL, GROVE LANE at 8pm

Following previous years' successes, the SGRA are holding a Valentine's Barn Dance. Jackie and Dominic and the Plan B dance band will provide the music, and Liz and John will be calling.

This is an occasion where all the members of our community, families, the young and not so young can come together and enjoy themselves. A great evening out!!

Tickets are £6 for adults, £3 for children (16 or under) and include a delicious hot supper. Soft drinks and alcoholic drinks will be available at the licensed bar. Purchase your tickets beforehand from:

SATURDAY 3 MARCH: PARISH HALL, GROVE LANE AT 2.30pm AND 7.30pm

SPRING GROVE FRINGE presents “THE THREE MUSKETEERS”. Based on the classic story, this offers swash and buckle, fun and an original musical score. Not a panto but hopefully a romp! Tickets, are £8 adult, £4 child and £20 family ticket (2 adults + 2 children) from Pam Vaughan on 8549 0313 (or use the ticket application form on SGRA website).

TUESDAY 6 MARCH: POLICE: GROVE WARD SAFER NEIGHBOURHOOD TEAM

PUBLIC MEETING IN PARISH HALL, GROVE LANE at 7pm

The next public meeting where residents can meet their local police team and raise any concerns will be on Tuesday 6th March. At this meeting the police will talk about a covert property marking system, SELECTADNA, whichuses a DNA-based forensic formula to protect property and deter thieves.The product normally costs £75 but will be offered to residents for about £12.

SATURDAY 17 MARCH: “PEDDLING PEACE” PARISH HALL, GROVE LANE - 7.30pm

An evening of live music with our great local band Plan B plus various support acts. There will be delicious Middle Eastern food, a belly dancer, a licenced bar and a raffle. Tickets are £15 and can be purchased from Mimi Fagan (8549 2323) or Janie Churchyard (8390 3884).

This is a fundraising event for the 2007 ‘Follow the Women’ bike ride across Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Palestine. ‘Follow the Women’ is an international organisation of ordinary women from many different countries who support the cause of peace and an end to violence in the Middle East. In a time when terror and cruelty are spreading around the globe, there has never been a greater need for the women of the world to work together for a more peaceful planet.

SATURDAY 21 APRIL: MULTIMEDIA QUIZ IN ST JOHN’S CHURCH at 8pm

The Quiz will include supper. Full details will appear in the next Springboard.

THURSDAY 26 APRIL: A.G.M. IN THE PARISH HALL, GROVE LANE at 8pm

The ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING of the SPRING GROVE RESIDENTS' ASSOCIATION will be held in the Parish Hall. All residents, longstanding or recently arrived in the area, are welcome to attend. As usual, we will have a main guest speaker who, together with our Ward Councillors and other guests, will answer your questions on matters concerning our area. Details to follow in the next Springboard.

THE SGRA COMMITTEE WISHES ALL RESIDENTS A HEALTHY AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR

If you have recently arrived in the SGRA area we invite you, and indeed all residents, to join in the various social activities (plays, concerts, dances etc), which take place throughout the year in the Parish Hall and St John'sChurch.

The Spring Grove Residents' Association is a non-political organisation founded in the 1970s and encompassing approximately 660 households within the boundaries formed by Portland Road, Springfield Road, Lingfield Avenue, Grove Lane and Villiers Road

but also including Geneva, Horace and Herbert Roads, Grove Close and Nicholson Mews.

The aim of the SGRA is to help to preserve and improve local amenities and to that end we maintain contact with Local Authority Councillors and Officers, and with the University. We also organise or help in social and community events and disseminate information on local activities, problems and developments through the newsletter 'SPRINGBOARD' and on our website (below).

KingstonUniversity is committed to being a good neighbour and to providing a number of channels of communication with local residents. Following the meeting on 31 January, the next Open Meeting for residents will be held on Wednesday 16 May at 6.30pm in C-SCAIPE at Penrhyn Road. Badminton Players in the Parish Hall The Monday and Thursday Evening Badminton clubs are keen to attract new
