University Medical Centre –

The University Medical Centre is a GP Partnership, open to all patients living within our Practice Boundary in Canterbury and the surrounding area (see for link to map to identify boundary). We work in partnership with our patients and our Patient Participation Group to provide medical care for our patients.

We are a General Medical Services (GMS) Practice offering Primary Care services for the diagnosis and prevention of disease. We help patients to manage their health and prevent illness. Our GPs (General Practitioners/Doctors) assess, diagnose, treat and manage illness. They carry out screening for some diseases and promote general health and wellbeing. Our GPs act as a patient’s advocate, supporting and representing a patient’s best interests to ensure they receive the best and most appropriate health and/or social care. Our GPs also provide the link to further health services and work closely with other healthcare colleagues. They may also arrange hospital admissions and referrals to other services and specialists and they link with secondary and community services about patient care, taking advice and sharing information where needed.

We are also a training practice involved in the education and training of training doctors, and medical students. The University Medical Centre believes that involvement in the education and training of future GPs will be beneficial for the Practice as a whole. Their presence will enhance and improve the service we can offer to our patients. This Practice has been accredited to train doctors intending to become General Practitioners. We have 2 GP mentors within the Medical Centre, namely:

Dr Philippa Katona – Responsible for GP Registrars

Dr Emma Munn – Responsible for FY2 (Foundation Year 2)
