Description:
AIDSTAR-One is a global United States Agency for International Development (USAID) contract, awarded in 2008 to John Snow, Inc. and partner organizations: BroadReach Healthcare (BRHC); EnCompass LLC; International Center for Research on Women (ICRW); MAP International (MAP); mothers2mothers (m2m); Social & Scientific Systems, Inc. (SSS); the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB); The White Ribbon Alliance for Safe Motherhood (WRA); and World Education, Inc. (WEI).
The Project's focus is to provide high quality technical assistance services to the Office of HIV/AIDS and USG country teams.
Responsibilities:
The Communications/Knowledge Management Intern will work with the Knowledge Management Team to develop and manage AIDSTAR-One communications products and services. This will include assisting in the development of products to improve knowledge uptake.
In addition, the intern will assist the Knowledge Management / Communications Manager in updating the AIDSTAR-One website with new content and the Communications Officer with the production of technical documentation, as assigned.
Specific activities will include:

  • Lead the development and maintenance of project dissemination lists
  • Assist in the development of a project-wide electronic newsletter to facilitate dissemination of new products and good and promising practices identified by the project
  • Assist the Knowledge Management/Communications Manager in updating the AIDSTAR-One website with new content
  • Assist the Communications Officer with the production of technical documentation and serve as the primary point of contact for production for the last half of the internship
  • Identify opportunities to showcase AIDSTAR-One technical materials via social media and through traditional channels, including participation in Washington-based meetings and the International AIDS Society bi-annual meeting.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and one to two years of publications dissemination, communications coordination, or writing experience
  • Familiarity with social media and other technology that may serve as useful dissemination tools
  • Ability to work independently and manage various projects in a team setting
  • Experience with USAID and/or other donor agencies highly desirable
  • Knowledge of HIV issues, including international programs designed to provide comprehensive care and support for people living with HIV
  • Ability to work well as part of a team and ability to work with limited supervision
  • Computer proficiency, including MS Office applications and internet research skills
  • Excellent written and verbal English skills required
  • Proficiency with French and Spanish preferred, but not required.
