SUMMER INTERNSHIP APPLICATION (HLTH 491)

In an effort to better serve BCH students, we now have a limited number of internship spaces (HLTH 491) available in the summer. Due to the limited number of internships available, selection is competitive. Special consideration may be given to students facing financial hardship. If you are interested in doing your capstone internship in the summer, please read the instructions below and complete the application. Applications will only be accepted from students enrolled in or have previously taken HLTH 391.

DEADLINES: Summer 2018 -Monday, November 6, 2017

Summer 2019 –Monday, April 2, 2018

Qualifications to complete HLTH 491 in the summer include all of the following:

  • Completion of all required program coursework prior to the start of the internship(only 12 credit internship remaining).
  • Secure and confirm an internship the semester prior to the summer(i.e. during HLTH 490).
  • If your application is approved and you confirm a summer internship, you are committing to HLTH 491 in the summer. Spots are competitive and backing out of the summer internship is unfair to other students. Please give careful consideration.
  • Commitment to a full-time summer experience will require 40 hours per week from ~May 23-August 25. There is no time during the summer internship period for a vacation or days off, no exceptions.
  • Confirmation of living arrangements through the end of the internship period in August is required.
  • All HLTH 491 Internship policies apply to a summer internship:
  • Internship placements are local to UMCP (Maryland, Washington DC, Northern Virginia)
  • Students are required to attend a series of professional development seminars that are held on campus during the internship period
  • The 12 credit P/F internship requires ~40 hours per week on-site (no virtual internships or telecommuting)
