TEACHER OF DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY

JOB DESCRIPTION

Overall Responsibility

  • A teacher who is not the Headmaster shall carry out the professional duties of a school teacher as circumstances may require and such particular duties as may be reasonably assigned to him/her under the direction of the Headmaster.
  • To bring those pupils assigned to them up to the required standard of attainment; and in cases where the teacher judges this not to be achievable, to recommend appropriate action.

Professional duties

  • The following duties shall be deemed to be included in the professional duties which a school teacher may be required to perform:

Teaching

  • In each case having regard to the curriculum for the school, and in line with the Department Guidelines.
  • Planning and preparing courses and lessons.
  • Teaching, according to their educational needs, the pupils assigned to them, including the setting and marking of work to be carried out by the pupil in school and elsewhere.
  • Assessing, recording and reporting on the development, progress and attainment of pupils.

Curriculum

  • Implement cross-curricular and other school policies currently in force.

Other Activities

  • Promoting the general progress and well-being of individual pupils and of any class or group of pupils assigned to them;
  • Providing guidance and advice to pupils on educational and social matters and on their further education and future careers, including information about sources of more expert advice on specific questions; making relevant records and reports;
  • Making records of and reports on the personal and social needs of pupils;
  • Communicating and consulting with the parents of pupils;
  • Communicating and co-operating with persons or bodies outside the school;
  • Participating in meetings arranged for any of the purposes described above.

Assessments and Reports

  • Providing or contributing to oral and written assessments, reports and references relating to individual pupils and groups of pupils.

Appraisal

  • Participating in arrangements for the appraisal of staff.

Review: further training and development

  • Reviewing from time to time their methods of teaching and programmes of work;
  • Participating in arrangements for their further training and professional development as a teacher.

Educational methods

  • Advising and co-operating with the Headmaster and other teachers (or any one or more of them) on the preparation and development of courses of study, teaching materials, teaching programmes, methods of teaching assessment and pastoral arrangements.

Discipline, health and safety

  • Maintaining good order and discipline among the pupils and safeguarding their health and safety both when they are authorised to be on the school premises and when they are engaged in authorised school activities and elsewhere. Safeguarding involves vigilance, and reporting health and safety concerns to the Bursary.

Staff meetings

  • Participating in meetings at school which relate to the curriculum for the school or the administration or organisation of the school, including pastoral arrangements.

Cover

  • Undertake an appropriate share of the collective staff responsibility to cover for absent colleagues when required, both during the academic day and residentially.

Public examinations

  • Participating in arrangements for preparing pupils for public examinations and in assessing pupils for the purpose of such examinations; recording and reporting such assessments; and participating in arrangements for pupils presentation for and supervision during such examinations.

Management

  • Taking such part as may be required of them in the review development and managements of activities relating to the curriculum, organisation and pastoral functions of the school.

Administration

  • Participating in administrative and organisational tasks related to such duties as are described above, including the management or supervision of persons providing support for the teachers in the school and the ordering and allocation of equipment and materials, when appropriate;
  • Attending assemblies, registering the attendance of pupils and supervising pupils, whether these duties are to be performed before, during or after school sessions.

General

  • Uphold standards as laid down by the Headmaster with regard to staff dress and discipline.
  • To carry out such extra-curricular activities and duties as may reasonably be demanded by the Headmaster.

Publicity

  • Working in conjunction with the Marketing & Admissions Manager promote and publicise the work and achievements of the School and department.

Health and Safety

  • Carry out risk assessments in line with the school’s Health and Safety policy.
  • Oversee arrangements for the safety of pupils and staff in school and on visits and excursions.

Other Responsibilities

  • Any other duties negotiated with the Headmaster.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Carry out the duties of a Form Tutor as required.
  • Carry out a share of supervisory duties in accordance with published schedules.
  • Fulfil the Conditions of Employment of Schoolteachers as laid down in the Teacher’s Pay and Conditions Document.
