Course Description: This course provides instruction in the technologically advanced world of agriculture and life sciences. Students are exposed to the latest techniques and advances in plant and animal biotechnology with a strong emphasis on hands-on activities. The FFA student organization and work-based learning experiences are integrated throughout this course to bring the scientific information to students for real-life application. Agriscience Applications is a recommended prerequisite.

Textbooks: Students will be issued a Textbook and a Lab Manual. It will be their responsibility to take care of this textbook and bring it to class on days it is needed. Textbooks that are lost will result in a debt slip for the student which will prohibit them from graduating until paid in full or book returned.

Laboratory Policies: The nature of this class will require students to participate in scientific labs. On these days, designated by the teacher, students will be expected to participate in all labs and wear proper protective equipment provided for each student. These labs may involve the use of chemicals and biological materials, such as bacteria. Students will be instructed and have to passa safety test before participating in any laboratory activity. SAFETY is the number one priority.

Agriscience Fair/SAE Component:Students will be required to plan, conduct, and complete a agriculture related science project that will be entered into the NC FFA Agriscience Fair in June 2015 in Raleigh, NC. Their work on this project will serve as their Experimental SAE and fulfill the SAE component of the course. To compete in this Agriscience Fair in Raleigh, students are required to join the FFA as well!

FFA Component: FFA is an integral part of the agriculture education program and students are encouraged and expected to join the St. Pauls FFA. Many of the topics covered in this class will be emphasized through contests and activities that they will be encouraged to participate in. Students are encouraged to join the St. Pauls FFA and participate in related FFA activities. Dues are $20.00 and there are payment plans and opportunities for students to raise money to pay for their dues.
