Affectionate and respected mother,SHRIMATHI SOPHIA RAJA, Honorable Chairman ER.A.JESUS RAJA, MADAM SHEEBA JESUS,very esteemed chief guest PROF.DR.K.BASKAR,VICE CHANCELLOR,MANONMANIAM SUNDARANAR UNIVERSITY, parents, well-wishers, invitees, staff and students of SARDAR RAJACOLLEGE OF ENGINEERING ,A warm welcome to everyone gathered here today for our 17th college day, RECFEST – 2017.

As the Principalof this college, it ismy great pleasure in presenting the annual report, for the academic year 2016-2017 with the blessings of GOD ALMIGHTY and FOUNDER CHAIRMAN, DR.S.A.RAJA.I invite you all to join withme in celebrating the success story of SRCE that isour accolades, academic results and achievements.

1. THECOLLEGE:

General:From the humble beginning we made in the year 2000 and having crossed many memorable milestones, today our college is the dream destination for the students and staff.

I wish to place on record, with gratitude, remembering our Founder Chairman Sardar Dr. S.A. RAJA, whose educational and charitable zeal made the engineering education dream of the students in this rural area a reality. And this reality has been witnessing remarkable growths and at present with 5 UG courses and 8 PG courses and 1200 students,under the vision and wisdom of Er.A.JESUS RAJA.

Library:Thecollegehasa well-stackedlibrarywithmorethan42,000volumesofbooks on various Engineeringdisciplines and Humanities &Science. Ourlibraryhas continuous subscription to Del-netmembership since2003 andwearesubscribing to IEEE journals.

Computer Facilities: TheCollege hasaround400computerswithan internetconnectionof12Mbps speed.In addition to this, aCentralizedComputer Centeris workingfor the students from 8 A.M–8 P.M.

2. ACHIEVEMENTS

Results: I can proudly say that our college has been achieving more than 60% overall result in Anna University examinations. This year also we haveachieved 68% overall result in Nov/Dec-2016 Anna University examinations.

I am proud to report that out of 250 students who were graduated from SRCE, 14 students of the last batch have brought laurels to the college by achieving university ranks.

Placement Training: SRCE has a nice “PLACEMENT CELL” which bring out well-trained engineers rather than just graduates from SRCE.

AS A RESULT,

Nearly 13companies have visited our college for campus recruitment to our studentsand 67 students havecleared all the technical rounds and got offer letters.

Sports:Our college kabbadi team has been participating in many championship tournaments in the zonal and regional levels and won prizes. Another feather in our cap is thatafter qualifying at the state level, 4 of our students: M.MOHAMMED RAFEEK (FINAL EEE), T.PERIYA SAMY (SECOND YEAR MECHANICAL), K.RAMACHANDRAN (THIRD YEAR CIVIL) and M.BARANISELVAN (SECOND YEAR CIVIL) are going to represent Tamilnadu State in the National Level circle kabbadi tournament.

I am happy to share that our college is one among the very few colleges in this region to be recognized by the government as PMKVYtraining centre Which is aPradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana flagship scheme of the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE). The objective of this Skill Certification Scheme is to enable a large number of Indian youth to take up industry-relevant skill training that will help them in securing a better livelihood.

I am proud to say thatTAMILNADU GOVERNMENT EDUCATION DEPARTMENT in connection with RASHTRIYA MADHYAMIK SHIKSHA ABHIYAN(RMSA) –has conducted the training for school teachers .

The following programs were conducted in our college:

  • One week COMPUTER ORIENTATION TRAINING for Government School Teachers during the months of September and October 2016.
  • RMSAresource person training programs for the 4 districts (Tirunelveli,Tuticorin ,Kanyakumari, virudhunagar) forEnglish-and social science teachers were conducted for 3 days in which 110 teachers were participated.
  • AREFRESHER COURSE by RMSAwas conducted for the Maths, Social and Tamilsubjects for government teachers during December 2016.

MOTIVATIONAL PROGRAM

  • Tamil Nadu Education departmentconducted a Motivational Program for the SLOW LEARNERS. In which around 1200 studentsof 10 th and around 1200 +2 studentswere benefited by “SIGARAM THODA SIRAKUGAL THARUVOM”.
  • Also aMotivational Program for the Government school teachers was conducted for the 3 districts (Tirunelveli,Tuticorin ,Kanyakumari).

3. CO-CURRICULARACTIVITIES:

GuestLectures:Toexpandthehorizonofknowledge of our students,we regularly arrange Guest Lectures in our college by eminent Educationalist and Professors on Topics of relevance from IITs, NITs, Anna University, Thiagarajar College of Engineering-Madurai,Government EngineeringColleges from variousIndustries and also by our college alumni’s.

Symposium, Seminarsand Conferences:Inordertoenrichthetechnicalknowledge ofevery individualandshareitwithothers,weconductNational LevelTechnical Symposium,NationalConference &InternationalConference everyyear.

In-Planttraining:All the students fromourcollegehaveundergoneIn-Plant traininginvariouscompanieslocatedinTamilnaduKeraladuring semester holidays duringthis academicyear. Apartfrom this, regularindustrialvisitswere arranged for all the students.

TECHPARK/TECHNOSEARCH

Inordertoequipourstudentsapart fromthecurriculumwehavearesearchlabin our collegenamedasTECHPARK,whichmotivates and mouldsour studentsto be ever hungry to explore newfrontiers. By the way to bringoutthe innovativeideas of students, we are conductingTECHNOSEARCH competition forthe engineeringstudents.

EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES:

Ourchallengeas an educatorfallsnotonlygiving informationtoourstudents,butteaching themhowtouseit. Educationthatfosterscreativity,promotescriticalthinking anddevelops communicationskillsistheneedofthehour.Thus,awiderangeoffunctionsandprogrammes areregularlyorganized.

NSS, RRC & YRC ACTIVITIES

The NSS, REDRIBBON CLUB (RRC) and YOUTH RED CROSS SOCIETY (YRC) units of our college are functioning effectively. Thevolunteershave conducted the following events:

  1. Blood Donation Camp
  2. Mass Tree Plantation
  3. Voters Awareness Rally
  4. TB Awareness camp

SPORTS

Sportscompetitionsinculcate thespiritof sportsmanshipamongthe studentsandprepare themfor thelife ahead.During thesportsday,thestudentsare dividedintodifferent houses and participateinvariousevents.SRCEalsohas Cricketground,Footballground,Hockey ground,Basketballcourt,VolleyBallcourt,Badmintoncourtandaboveallawell-staked multi-play Gym.Manyofourstudentshaveparticipatedinvariousathleticevents conducted byAnnaUniversity Zonal Meet.

CELEBRATIONS

WetheSRCE-ianscelebratetheOnamfestivalandpongalinavery grand manner everyyear.Inthiscelebration,our studentsconductvarioustraditional games, cultural events, etc.

4. THEFACULTY:

The success of our college isthecombined effortof theteacherswhose supreme artis toawakenjoy increativeexpressionandknowledge.Wearefortunatetohaveacadreof72faculty members,welltrained,wellexperienced,dedicatedandcapableoffulfilling thedemandsofthe growingmoderngeneration ofstudents.

Ourfaculty membershaveachievedmorethan80%of passin94subjectsincluding cent percentpassin34subjectsintheApril/May 2016,AnnaUniversity Examinations.Againthey hadmanagedtosecure more than80% passin146subjectsincluding centpercentpass in 45subjects in the Nov / Dec2016 AnnaUniversityExaminations.

FDP/Workshop/Seminars:AttendingFDP,Workshops andSeminarsaremandatoryforallthe faculty membersinevery semester.Ourfaculty membersarenotonlyattendingthese programmesregularly butalsoserveasinvitedguestspeakersandresourcepersons insimilar programs conducted byothercolleges.

5. MOTIVATION BY THEMANAGEMENT:

FREENOON MEALS SCHEME:In ordertohelpthewealthilychallengedstudents, our managementis generously providingfreelunchunder the“FreeNoonMealsScheme”forthestudentswho havepassedallthe subjects in the universityexaminations in everysemester.

BEST FACULTY

In order to motivate and encourage the spirit of healthy competition among the faculty members, the management has institutedawards for the best teaching (Engineering, Humanities and Science, MCA & Special prize to Maths) and the non-teaching stafffrom the year 2009 onwards. The best teaching and non-teaching faculty (first two places-the best & the second best) will be honored with cash prizes every year. Also the management has instituted reward of a gold ring, for staff having 10 years of service in SRCE and Rs.30, 000 cash, for staff having 5 years of service in SRCE.

BEST PERFORMING DEPARTMENT

Also to recognize the best department, the management has been giving BEST PERFORMING DEPARTMENT award every year. CSE Dept. had won the title consecutively for the last 3 years. This year’s award is about to be announced in the later part of this function.

6. CONCLUSION:

Beforeconcludingthis report, Ibow my head to the Almighty God for the blessings showered upon this institution. May I take this opportunity to express my deepest gratitude to ourHonorable ChairmanER.
