Academic Year Internship Application Instructions

ACADEMIC YEAR INTERNSHIP APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

ETHICAL INTERNSHIP SEARCHApply only to one internship and only if you intend to accept it if offered. Students who renege on an offer will not be allowed to apply for a different internship in the same semester and will not be eligible for summer internship funding.Accepting an internship in this program and not registering for credit but instead proceedingas a volunteer will be considered dishonest and a violation of the standards of conduct as stated in du Lac.

To apply you will need the application (see page 2), your resumé, and a statement of interest. Follow the steps below to complete the application process.

Resumé Make an appointment with the Career Center for a resume review.

Statement of Interest Write a brief statement (1 page) discussing what you can contribute to this internship, what you want to learn and your availability schedule (not your class schedule).

1stInterview Make an appointment for an interview with Carolina Arroyo. Send your application, resumé and statement to her via e-mail beforethe interview.

Schedule an interview with the internshipsponsor Contact information will be provided.

Prepare Learn as much as possible about the organization; have questions for them; prepare for questions they may ask you and familiarize yourself with illegal interview questions.

2ndInterview Dress appropriately, arrive early and take copies of your resume and statement.

After the interview Inform Ms. Arroyo if you were or were not offered the internship. Register into POLS 35901 as soon as possible and no later than the 6th day of classes.

Attend the mandatory orientation meeting Dates, times and locations TBA.

Begin the internship! Begin the internship no later than the second week of classes.

If you are a student with an F-1 or J-1 visa, you may need CPT authorization in order to be able to accept an internship for credit. Please contact the International Student Services Office in Room 105 of the Main Building for assistance.

I understand that Political Science internships, POLS 35901, are done for academic credit, are unpaid and do not count for the Political Science major.
