3Definition

Company requirements refer to instructions to staff on policy and procedures which are documented in memo or manual format and are available in the workplace. These requirements include but are not limited to – company specifications and procedures, work instructions, manufacturer specifications, product quality specifications, and legislative requirements.

4Range

Hazardous automotive waste materials may include but are not limited to – paint materials, chemicals, solvents, refrigerants, petrol and/or oil, adhesives, cleaning materials, lead dust, masking materials, plastic materials, batteries (including hybrid type), body and chassis components, mechanical components.

5For thisunit standard, it is essential that the practical assessment evidence is obtained in the workplace under normal workplace conditions.

Outcomes and evidence requirements

Outcome 1

Store hazardous automotive waste materials ready for disposal.

Evidence requirements

1.1Safe working practices are carried out throughout the task in accordance with legislative requirements.

Rangepersonal safety, safety of others, vehicle safety, workshop safety, environmental safety, tools and equipment safety.

1.2Storage areas and facilities are identified in accordance with legislative requirements.

Rangemay include but is not limited to – sealed fireproof drums and suitable containers, dangerous goods store, recovery equipment.

1.3Hazardous automotive waste materials are identified in a way that will enable them to be stored in accordance with company requirements.

1.4Hazards are identified prior to the hazardous automotive waste materials being stored to enable compliance with company requirements.

Rangemay include but is not limited to – fire, fumes, toxic dust, spontaneous combustion, contamination.

1.5Hazardous automotive waste materials are stored in accordance with legislative requirements.

Outcome 2

Arrange for the disposal of hazardous automotive waste materials.

Evidence requirements

2.1Hazardous automotive waste materials that can be recycled are identified, and arrangements are made for these materials to be recycled, in accordance with company requirements.

Rangemay include but is not limited to – thinners/solvents, plastic, lead, metal, oils, refrigerants, batteries.

2.2Disposal company is selected to enable the non-recyclable hazardous automotive waste materials to be removed safely from the workplace in accordance with company requirements.

2.3Arrangements for non-recyclable hazardous automotive waste materials to be collected by the disposal company are carried out in accordance with company requirements.
