JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

Job Title: Universal Pre-K Classroom Assistant (Per Diem)Hours:8am – 3:00pm

Reports to: Universal Pre-K Lead TeacherJob Grade: 12

Work Hours: 6.5 per day

Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Lead Teacher, assist in the development and implementation of a developmentally appropriate preschool program.

Qualifications:

AAS in Child Development or related field, or C.D.A. and one year’s experience in childcare, or High School Diploma or equivalent and 2 years experience in childcare. Must be cleared through OCFS and the NYS Justice Center.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the teacher in daily program by co-teaching at centers and planned activities, contributing to observations of a child’s progress, and helping implement behavior management
  • Assist in preparing materials needed for daily activities
  • Assume teaching duties in the absence of the teacher by implementing daily lesson plans
  • Help maintain appearance, cleanliness and safety of the classroom
  • Assist in maintaining attendance, classroom roster, and emergency information on children
  • Attend all required in-services, trainings, and staff meetings
  • Develop and maintain a positive rapport with co-workers and parents
  • Assist with daily transportation

Physical/Mental Requirements and Working Conditions:

This job requires frequent bending/stooping and occasional to frequent squatting/crouching. Reaching above the shoulder, and pushing and pulling. There is occasional lifting up to 25 pounds to assist the lifting of chairs, classroom equipment and supplies. The incumbent must have the dexterity to operate keyboards, computers, copy machines, and other office/instructional machines. S/he must be able to supervise students in the classroom and outside. The Teaching Assistant must be able to get around the classroom and assist students with normal activities and must be able to communicate with student and parents.
