  2. Honors Courses (August 2009)
  3. SB 66 and HB 149, both filed in February 2009, call for an act directing the State Board of Education to require one arts education credit for graduation from high school as recommended by the Joint Select Committee on Arts Education. SB66 passed the Senate and HB 149 is awaiting full approval in the House.

  2. 6 electives: 2 of which must be any combination of arts education, career technical education, or foreign language
  3. 4-unit concentration (which may be in arts education)

  1. ARTS EDUCATION AND 21ST CENTURY SKILLS
  2. Examines how the Arts Education Standard Course of Study aligns with and teaches 21st century themes and skills. Provides leadership to educators and administrators about how to implement 21st century skills in the curriculum, and specifically in dance, music, theatre arts and visual arts classrooms, K-12.

  4. The North Carolina Arts Council and the Kenan Institute for the Arts are partnering with the Lincoln Center Institute (LCI) in New York City to create a regional site for LCI’s National Educator Workshop (“aesthetic education”).

ARTS EDUCATION COORDINATORS OF NORTH CAROLINA

The Arts Education Coordinators is a group of individuals representing the school systems across North Carolina who come together twice a year to discuss issues impacting arts education in North Carolina's schools. Often, meetings will include the sharing of resources and professional development, as well as discussion of policies, legislation and issues impacting arts education. This self-governing group includes Arts Supervisors, Directors of Arts Education, Associate Superintendents, Lead Teachers or other teacher representatives, Curriculum Coordinators, and others. Invitations and registration information is sent through the Arts Education Listserv.
