Lesson:
· Review steps of the scientific method
· Introduce observations vs inference(notes)
· Students will complete observations writing frame using senses (outside or pictures)
· Introduce qualitative vs quantitative data(notes)
· Students will work with a partner while identifying types of qual. and quan. data-explain answer / Observation

· Introduce stations (2 days) and explain expectations and procedures

2) Scientific Method cut and paste poster
3) M&M Qualitative lab
4) M&M Quantitative lab
5) BrainPOP video and quiz-computer/iPad listen to scientific method song
*Finished? Create your own scientific method song including all key steps
· Students will choose their roles
· Students will complete stations in groups of 4 or 5 in the order listed above. All work will be completed in the science notebook. / Observation

Essential Question: What are the steps of the scientific method? What is the question based on the provided problem and experiment?
Lesson:
· Explain Balloon Bonanza lab expectations and procedures
· Students will choose roles.
· Students will read the experiment directions first and then create a question and hypothesis based on directions and materials (Q: What will happen to the balloon when the baking soda empties into the vinegar/water? H: I think the balloon may rise because the substances will create a gas.)
· Students will follow the steps to conduct the lab and draw a conclusion based on their hypothesis
· Students will draw a diagram to report results and identify any qualitative data. / Hypothesis
