President of the Republic of Korea

Seoul

Budapest, January 22, 2014

Dear Madam President,

On February 1, 2014 Hungary and the Republic of Korea celebrate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. I would like to take this occasion to send on behalf of the Hungarian people and that of my own our best wishes to you and to the Korean people.

That historic step a quarter-century ago coincided with the beginning of Hungary’s transition and became one of its symbolic elements. Having chosen the path of democratic development, Hungary was, from the start, presented with important opportunities by the establishment and expansion of relations between our countries.

I am pleased to witness the valuable cooperation that has emerged between the Republic of Korea and Hungary over the past twenty-five years. We share the same values, have a similar assessment of the challenges the world faces and both of us are ready take our share of international and supranational efforts aimed at making our world a better and safer or more environmentally conscious place. Our trade and investment partnership, within the framework of which several Korean companies have placed their confidence in the Hungarian business environment, forms another important pillar of our relations. I also attach great significance to intensifying people-to-people relations, the growing interest in each other’s culture, which is the best guarantee for bringing the two countries even closer to each other. I can assure you that on the foundation of the friendship between the two peoples we will continue steadily looking for ways to further expand cooperation between our countries in the future.

In light of all this, it would be a great pleasure for me to welcome you to Budapest on your next European trip since that would allow us to exchange our views in person about the further development of the Hungarian-Korean relationship.

May I take this opportunity to wish you every success to your highly responsible work and also wish the Korean people peace and further achievements.

Sincerely yours,

János Áder
