HOP Checklist for Graduation

o  Maintain a GPA of 3.33 or above

o  Satisfactorily complete EHOP:4100

o  Satisfactorily complete EHOP:4101

o  Complete 5 honors activities (scholarship, research, practice, and/or outreach programs)

o  Written Project Summary (a.k.a. thesis):

I. Introduction

§  Provide a 2-5 page introduction of the research topic and the component in which you will be involved.

II. Literature Review

§  Complete a literature review of research (page length will vary), which pertains to your topic.

III. Methodology

§  Describe the methodology and your participation in this research topic.

§  Describe how this pertains to the completed research project, if you only completed a portion of the research.

IV. Discussion/Results

§  Provide graphs/tables of the findings

§  Discuss the results and findings.

If you wrote a portion of an article that was submitted for publication, then this article may be attached; therefore, your written project summary would not be as extensive or necessary, if the above sections were completed within the submitted article.

Length of Project Summary: The length of the project will vary widely across the various disciplines in the College of Education. This should be discussed with your faculty HOP mentor. Evaluations of the paper will be based upon the quality of the 4 parts of the written summary. Questions about the length of the paper should be addressed to the Belin-Blank Center. Students are encouraged to go to the Shambaugh Honors House to see the quality of Honors research projects that have been submitted in the past. There is also a collection of HOP presentation papers in the Belin-Blank Center.

o  Reaction Paper (to the thesis)

o  The reaction paper should summarize your reactions to your involvement in the research. Some topics to be included in your reaction paper are:

§  Why did I select this topic of research?

§  What did I think about this area of research?

§  How did I grow intellectually or what did I learn from this experience?

§  What is the connection between this research and teaching?

o  Length of Reaction Paper: 2-3 pages

o  Presentation

o  All students are expected to present (20+ minutes) their research project to an acceptable audience.

o  Complete and turn in the Application for graduation with honors

o  Deadlines:

§  If graduating Fall 2015: October 2, 2015

§  If graduating Spring 2016: February 26, 2016

o  Turn your final honors thesis in to the honors college (4th floor BHC) and the graduate student for HOP () You must follow the example title page format from the HOP website.

o  Deadline:

§  If graduating Fall 2014: December 16, 2015

§  If graduating Spring 2015: May 11, 2015

o  Optional: Apply for David and Connie Belin Award
