Please contact Heidi for this if it was not received.
  1. First Annual Clinical Documentation Improvement Week – This will be taking place September 18-24th. There are items for purchase to celebrate this week at
  1. Data collection - A question was asked about how the various facilities collected statistics on how the providers responded to clarifications. St. Cloud responded that their program (Crimson) allowed for department reports to collect individual provider response rates. Regents responded that they only notify providers if the response rate is an outlier.
  1. Facebook/Networking Updates: Mark asked about developing a committee to review the efficiency of creating a Facebook page that linked to the ACDIS Page. It is also time to work on the Chapter Bylaws and Meeting Set-Up Procedure. If you are interested in assisting with formation of the Chapter By-Laws, please contact Heidi Hillstrom. If you are interested in developing the Meeting Set-Up Procedure, please contact Mark LeBlanc.
  1. CEUs/CCDS – Heidi Hillstrom discussed the e-learning section at ACDIS ( Additionally, CCDS CEUs may be earned by taking the quizzes available through the online journal. A question was asked about the presentation CDs that were ordered. Heidi will be checking into getting a link and password so the individual members may listen to the audio at their convenience.
  1. Acute Renal Failure/Acute Tubular Necrosis clarification Criteria – Sandra Bodin (Mayo Clinic) was unavailable to present this information. Sharon Axtman said she would check to see if Sandra would present this in September. Another suggestion for the September meeting or teleconference was having Tim Weister (Mayo Clinic) discuss the Pathlore Education that he and Jeanne Hardy developed for Mayo Clinic providers.
  1. Readmission Criteria for Congestive Heart Failure – A question was asked regarding what criteria facilities were using to determine if a readmission for CHF was appropriate. The question was based on the FY 2012 IPPS Final Rule which indicated that hospitals may be penalized for high readmission rates for certain conditions beginning in Fiscal Year 2013 (more information can be found at The consensus was that the criteria for appropriate readmission would depend upon the circumstances relating to the admission.
  1. RAC Updates – Glenn Krause and Heidi Hilstrom presented articles which were shared with the members regarding BaptistHospital where it was indicated clinicians were documenting conditions that clinically were not supported. Discussion revolved around the need for CDI members to be vigilant when reviewing the documentation and not “over” clarify conditions.

  1. Open forum discussion - SIRS

Mark also noted that he is receiving more regular RAC requests.

The September meeting will be hosted by Park Nicolette, and the October meeting will be hosted by St. Luke’s.
