Bonnie Terpstra, 2010 Chair, and the entire Greater Newton Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors is excited and proud to introduce our new Executive Director, Darrell Sarmento. Please join us in warmly welcoming Darrell to the Newton Chamber and to our community.

The Greater Newton Area Chamber of Commerce is please to introduce Darrell Sarmento as their new Executive Director. Darrell comes to the chamber with extensive non-profit management experience with strong skills in public relations and marketing. He also managed a growing small business for several years giving him a hands-on understanding of the day to day responsibilities of developing and running a business. Most recently, Darrell was on a special contract with the Greater Des Moines Partnership promoting special programs to the membership. “My time with the Partnership has been invaluable in getting to know the business climate in Central Iowa”, explained Darrell, “I’ve met some sharp leaders who know business and are committed to the economic success of the region. I look forward to Newton being a part of that success”.

Darrell and his wife Regina will be relocating to the Newton area this summer. They are currently living outside of Indianola. “We moved to the Midwest from California last fall”, shared Darrell, “We have children and grandchildren in the Midwest and were at a point in our careers to make a move. We settled on Central Iowa as my wife grew up in South Des Moines. We absolutely love it. Our weekend ‘hobby’ has been taking day trips to explore all of the communities in Central Iowa. Newton was actually one of our favorite towns before we even knew we’d be moving here!”

Darrell’s wife Regina currently works as the coordinator for Community Partnerships for Protecting Children covering 3 counties. Before leaving California they launched and ran a non-profit organization serving homeless women with children. “I was a one-man development department handling all of the fundraising, marketing and public relations. They were some of the most challenging yet rewarding years in my career. It was during those years when I also deepened my appreciation for the chamber of commerce. I was an active member of 3 different chambers in our county and attribute a significant part of our success to the partnerships and friendships I made in those chambers”.

“I look forward to meeting business leaders and friends in my new community. The Board of Directors for the chamber have been so encouraging and I’m confident that great days are ahead for Newton. If you aren’t a member of the chamber now, it’s a great time to join in!”

Newton Chamber Member “Morning Networking”

Tuesday June 29th, 2010 at 7:30 a.m. “Morning Networking” kindly hosted by the Beverly Cross and the Jasper County Historical Society at the Jasper County Historical Museum located at 1700 S. 15th Ave. W. Beverly said she was going to give all her fellow Newton Chamber member attendees a mini-tour after the Newton Chamber member personal 30-second commercials.

Website: www.jaspercountymuseum.org

If you missed our third morning member networking on Tuesday May 25th, 2010 here is a recap: Generally speaking, people prefer to do business with or refer business to people and businesses they know, like and trust. Building meaningful business relationships begins with connecting. On May 25th, 2010, approximately 30 Newton Chamber members gathered, connected and shared their own 30-second commercials. Then, for hosting a Park Centre team presented a general overview about the Park Centre facility and their open tot the public bistro. Thank you again Park Centre for your wonderful hospitality, coffee, juice, and pastries. This was truly a great and successful member event.

“The better we know each of our member businesses, the better we can serve and support each other.”
