Awards Presented at Academic Awards Night

Principal’s List: Students who have earned a minimum 3.8 quality point average, with no grade lower than a B-, for the first three consecutive quarters of the year.

Honor Roll: Students who have earned a minimum 3.0 quality point average, with no grade lower than a C, for the first three consecutive quarters of the year.

Damien Shea Award: presented to the student who has shown exceptional personal strength and character during the course of the school year.

National Merit Scholarship Program: selected by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation on the basis of their score on the Preliminary SAT/ National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT)

National Latin Honor Society: Students who maintain an “A” average during the year,

are members in good standing of the National Junior Classical League and

exemplify good citizenship.

George Washington University School of Engineering and Applied Science Medal: presented to the junior with the highest grade point average in the field of mathematics and science during his secondary years.

Maryland Distinguished Scholar Program: selected by the Maryland Higher Education Commission State Scholarship Administration for achievement in academics, instrumental music, vocal music and art.

National Achievement Scholarship Program: presented to Black American high school students selected by the National Merit Scholarship Program

DeMatha Journalism Award: presented to students who have demonstrated excellence in journalistic fact gathering, reporting and writing.

DeMatha Creative Writing Award: presented to students who have demonstrated consistent excellence in fiction and/or poetry writing.

Maryland All-State Music Program: musicians selected by the Maryland Music Educators Association for orchestra, band, and chorus

Tom Eastman Scholarships: established by the Student Government Association to honor the memory of the late Thomas Eastman, Guidance Counselor and member of the DeMatha family, for his example of caring and service, his devotion to DeMatha and to individuals around him during his struggle and illness.

Book Fund: provides a stipend for purchase of books for the following year.

Academic Scholarship: presented to students who model Mr. Eastman’s qualities as a gentleman and scholar

National Latin and Greek Examinations: based on the scores of the National Latin Examination administered by the American Classical League

Advanced Placement Scholars: selected by the College for high achievement on Advanced Placement exams taken the previous year.

National German High School Exam: based on the scores of the National German Examination administered by the American Association of Teachers of German.

Maryland Merit Scholastic Award: recognition from the State of Maryland for outstanding academic achievement.

St. Michael’s Book Award for Scholarship and Service: presented by St. Michele’s College to a junior member of the National Honor Society who has demonstrated a sustained and sincere commitment to community service.

Williams College Book Award: presented to a junior in the top 5% of his class who has demonstrated intellectual leadership and a significant contribution to the extracurricular life of the school.

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Award: presented to a junior to recognize outstanding science and mathematics achievement.
