Job Purpose AND ROLE SPECIFIC INFORMATION
The post holder teaches on courses offered by the Directorate of External Affairs, in particular contributing to high quality provision primarily on the Foundation Diploma within Preparation for Higher Education. Some teaching on other courses offered within the Directorate of External Affairs may also be required.
The main responsibility of the post holder is teaching, assessment and the promotion of learning in the broad disciplinary area of Fashion, Costume and Textiles. The post holder is expected to be able to offer this particular subject expertise but, importantly, if required support learning and creative skills across a range of Pathways. The post holder will act as a tutor to Prep HE students providing academic guidance, support and advice on education and career progression.
Main Responsibilities
·  To plan, organise and/or contribute to the development and documentation of lesson plans, schemes of work and programmes of study and contribute to the organisation and administration of courses.
·  To contribute to the planning and development of the course curriculum and the necessary validations, reviews and reports.
·  To undertake tutorial and pastoral responsibilities, as directed by the Pathway Leader and maintain accurate tutorial records, attendance and assessment records.
·  To contribute to the identification, maintenance and enhancement of the quality of teaching and learning both in Prep HE and the Directorate and more generally within the University as part of the University’s system of quality assurance.
·  To contribute to course and curriculum development, and to undertake appropriate staff development, from time to time, to enable the University to maintain the currency and relevance of its provision.
·  To be familiar with Course, Prep HE, Directorate and University regulations and to ensure student discipline and high levels of student performance and liaise with the non-teaching areas of the University as appropriate.
·  To undertake marketing activities as appropriate and assist with the recruitment of students to Prep HE.
·  To assist the Head of Prep HE in the effective and efficient operation of Prep HE in whatever manner deemed appropriate and undertake such other reasonable duties as may be required by the University.
·  To observe and implement health and safety responsibilities as specified within AUB’s Health and Safety Policy.
·  To demonstrate professionalism in the role as a representative of AUB, incorporating AUB core values in the delivery of duties.
·  To observe equality and inclusivity practices and procedures and promote equality of opportunity at all times.
·  To observe and adhere to all AUB policies relevant to the role.
·  To undertake such other duties as may reasonably be requested.
A full time Lecturer post on Directorate of External Affairs / Prep HE courses has a teaching requirement of 826 hours within the total annual commitment of 1665 hours. A part time Lecturer at 0.5fte will have a teaching requirement of 413 within the total annual commitment of 826 hours. Teaching hours encompass all direct contact with students in support of their learning and this includes interviews, tutorial support, assessment and assessment feedback.
