VISA REQUIREMENTS

VISITING FOREIGN NATIONALS

Memorandum of requirements

Section 11(2) visa (first application must be done abroad)

The 11(2) applications are submitted abroad, at the SAHC closest to the applicant’s normal residence.

The turnaround time for the applications to be finalised varies from country to country. A 15-30 day period should be allowed for processing.

The application should generally be supported by documentation confirming:

- Purpose or necessity of the work

- Nature of the work

- Qualification and skills required for the work

- Duration of the work

- Place of the work

- Duration of the visit

- Proof of remuneration or stipend which the applicant will receive from UP

- Identity and contact details of the inviting UP faculty representative

Valid airline ticket.

Proof of funds

We issue a personalised requirement list as per the specific SAHC where the application is to be submitted, eg.

Documents required for Section 11(2) visitor’s visa

Valid airline ticket / electronic flight itinerary / Copy / Applicant / UP / Please provide a copy of the applicant’s proposed flight itinerary (arrival and departure) for the visit.
Proof of funds / Original / Applicant / The applicant should provide recent personal bank statements for the past 3 months (original bank statements or certified by the issuing bank). These statements should not be older than 3 months at the time of submission of the visa application.
Proof of accommodation / Copy / Applicant / UP / Please provide a copy of the confirmed hotel booking (or other confirmed accommodation) for the applicant’s stay in South Africa.
Invitation letter from UP / Original / UP / A draft of the required letter is attached, to be issued by an official representative of the Department/Faculty on an official letterhead.
Please attach a certified copy of the South African ID / passport and relevant visa or permit of the representative signing this letter on behalf of UP.
A letter of permission from the institution / employer abroad / Original / Applicant / If the applicant is currently attached to an institution abroad, the relevant department/faculty within that institution should issue a letter acknowledging that the applicant has been invited to visit UP in South Africa and that the necessary arrangements have been made by that institution and the applicant to accommodate his absence.
