Part 2 Programme Background / Structure

Background

The Postgraduate Diploma in International Business Development was launched in 2006 as a specialist educational offering for participants on IBEC’s Export Orientation Programme (EOP). The EOP takes leading Irish graduates and places them in overseas markets with the remit of export business development. Ireland’s longest running graduate programme, the EOP has played a significant role in developing Irish exports since its inception in 1983. This programme has now been rebranded the Postgraduate Diploma in Global Business Development.

The requirements of participating organisations have changed over the years and EOP role descriptors have become more disparate. As a result IBEC have created a sister programme to EOP, called IBEC Global Graduates (IGG) and have asked DIT to create a second stream on the Postgraduate Diploma to provide a more general business education, this is being branded the Postgraduate Diploma in Global Business Leadership.

Entry requirements

Applications will be considered from graduates who hold a 2.2 honours degree (or an equivalent qualification) in any discipline and have been accepted onto the IBEC EOP or IBEC Global Graduates programme.

Students who fail to meet the minimum entry criteria, but who have significant work experience along with prior educational qualifications may apply for exceptional entry. All decisions regarding exceptional entry will be made by the College of Business exceptional entry committee.

No exemptions are possible in relation to any module for this programme.

Students will initially be registered on the Postgraduate Certificate programme and will progress from that programme to the Postgraduate Diploma Programme. Students who wish to exit the programme having completed the first stage will be awarded the Postgraduate Certificate in Global Business.

Continued participation on the IBEC EOP/ IBEC Global Graduates programme is a pre-requisite for successful completion of the programme.

Student assessment

In accordance with the General Assessment Regulations and Addendum to the General Assessment Regulations of the Institute.

Students will be permitted a maximum of only 2 attempts to pass a module.
