BED RACE
The Sullivan Spores N’ More Festival is introducing a new event this year. If your business, organization or just a few of your wacky friends want to join in the fun and be a part of something that is sure to be a success, here is your opportunity. All it takes is a $25 entry fee, a good sense of humor (wild), some costumes, a little agility and a few minutes of your time.
The festival this year is on the 29th of April and will be located at the American Legion/Civic Center parking lot. Bed Race competition will start at 3:30 and will go until all division champions have been determined as well as a Grand Champion. Each divisional winner will be presented a unique one of a kind “trophy.” The Grand Champion will receive a portion (50%) of all entry fees and will have their team name placed on a perpetual trophy that will be kept at the Sullivan Chamber and Economic Development (SCED) office. At the request of the Grand Champion, the trophy may be temporarily displayed for bragging rites purposes at your organization.

Rules are simple; each team consists of up to 5 members in costumes. Costumes of your choosing, but they must be in good taste. One member will be designated as a Lapdog. This Lapdog must remain on the bed during the entire race. At no time is the Lapdog permitted to get off or fall off the bed. If that happens, dog gone it, the team has to tuck their tails between their legs and return to the starting line to start all over with a 30 second handy-cap. The team may have 1 to 4 Huskies. Huskies will pull, push carry or drag the bed through the entire course. The course is a down and back course. The Huskies take the bed to a “Doggy Station.” At the doggy station the team will get a sheet and 5 pillowcases (provided by event staff.) The team must make the bed and case the 5 pillows. Remember the Lapdog cannot get off the bed. After the bed is made to the satisfaction of a judge, the team will race (slalom) back to the start/finish line. The mattress, the sheet, all 5 cased pillows and the Lapdog must remain on the bed during the return trip and cross the finish line.

1. Dalmatians… Fire departments
2. Deputy Dawgs… Sheriff/police departments
3. Legal Beagles… Judges/Lawyers/Law Firms
4. Blood Hounds… Bankers
5. Labs…. Pharmacies and Medical Clinics (get the “Lab” connection?)
6. Poodles… females only
Maybe last but not least
7. Heinz 57… teams that don’t fit any other division
Pick a division that best fits, or create your own division. If you want to create a division, get at least one more team to join you but remember you have to live with the fame or the shame. Teams do not have to be composed of all members of a particular profession or group either, mixing and matching is OK.
Teams will receive points for speed, costumes and the entertainment factor. Remember you are dogs and you are racing a bed; let your imagination run a little here. The wilder the imagination and the higher the entertainment value will equate to more fun and more points scored. Highest total points scored in each division will be the division winner. Division winners will race off for the title of Grand Champion.

Join us for a fun event!
The official bed will be on display one week prior to competition. However, it will not be available for practice runs. You must get your shaggy-dog bodies into shape by some other means.
