Maximum Grant / £25,000 although larger grants may be awarded in exceptional circumstances.
Payment Profile / Normally an initial 50% upfront payment, with the final payment upon receipt of final claim form and associated paperwork/invoices, however, at the discretion of senior officers the initial payment could be up to 80% of the agreed grant.
Applicant Contribution towards the Project / We will normally require voluntary clubs and associations, as well as National Governing Bodies (NGBs), to contribute a minimum 20% of the project costs. Local Authorities, other public bodies and commercial organisations normally need to contribute a minimum of 50%.
Purpose of Grant / Primarily, we fund outcome-based projects that develop sport in the community. Our vision for Sport in Wales is to unite a proud sporting nation, where every child is hooked on sport for life and Wales is a nation of champions. Funds are available to kick start new projects or to raise the standard of current activities. However, in certain circumstances projects that safeguard existing activities or numbers can also be considered for grant funding.
Who can apply? / Any group that holds a bank account in their organisation’s name. You’ll probably be one of the following:
§  Sports Club or Association;
§  Sports Governing Body;
§  Local Authority;
§  Youth Club;
§  Community Group;
§  Voluntary Association;
§  Workplace;
§ 
At the discretion of senior officers, grant applications from sole traders or individuals could also be considered.
Sport Wales recommends that you are affiliated to your National Governing Body of Sport. In the interests of safety, organisations that take part in certain sports must be affiliated to the recognised governing body (please see our website for a list www.sportwales.org.uk).
Who cannot apply? / §  Sports that are not officially recognised by Sport Wales - http://sport.wales/about-us/how-we-work/working-in-partnership/national-governing-bodies-of-sport/recognition-of-sports-and-national-governing-bodies.aspx
§  Organisations whose proposed project has already started;
§  Primary/Secondary schools arranging activities for their pupils;
What costs/project types can be covered? / We will normally consider items like these, with the project cost determining which grant programme is applied to:
§  Purchase of new or additional sports equipment;
§  Coach education;
§  Establishing new teams or increasing participation of existing teams;
§  Initial venue hire, coaching costs or instructor fees (maximum 20
sessions);
§  Reasonable marketing costs;
§  Multi Use Games Areas;
§  Pitch Drainage;
§  Floodlighting;
§  Develop training areas;
§  Purchase of land or rights in land to develop activity areas;
§  Planning Permission;
§  For building works, certain professional fees will also be eligible for
support, e.g. architect’s fees;
§  Capital projects, such as building works to create new facilities or
refurbishment works to an existing facility;
What additional costs may be covered? / ·  Maintenance, repair or replacement of current equipment or facilities, however, consideration will be given to replace equipment or facilities that maintains existing activities or numbers, at the discretion of Sport Wales;
·  Changing rooms, however, a project that offers exceptional value and/or outcomes could be considered, at the discretion of Sport Wales;
·  Maintenance equipment, however, consideration may be given to a single or multi-sport area/regional proposal where a cluster arrangement can be agreed in conjunction with the appropriate governing bodies;
What costs cannot be covered? / ·  Purchase of personal items of equipment;
·  Social areas, kitchens or toilets;
·  Projects outside Wales;
·  Physical activities such as gardening, DIY, environmental improvements, performance dance or circus skills;
·  Projects that are considered to be part of an organisation’s normal day-to-day running costs;
·  Catering and hospitality;
·  Medals, certificates or trophies;
·  Domestic or foreign tours;
·  One off events with no links to ongoing activities;
·  Memberships, affiliations or registration fees;
Monitoring / ·  All projects to complete PCR form;
·  All projects with a grant award of over than £10k to be monitored;
·  All projects under £10k subject to a 10% random sample and/or hand-selected for monitoring by officers.
Grant Conditions/ Restrictions / §  Your project will not be eligible for funding if previous awards have not been closed by Sport Wales due to outstanding documentation (Final Claim form & PCR form);
Supporting Documentation / §  Three itemised quotations for items of equipment, where the individual value of an item exceeds £250. For building works, 1 Quantity Surveyor’s estimates of costs or 3 quotations are required;
§  Copies of bank statements from the last 3 months for ALL accounts held (n/a for statutory organisations or National Governing Bodies);
