Prin. Of Ag. Description:

This course provides instruction in the foundations of the various segments of the agricultural industry. Agricultural career opportunities will be emphasized. Animal science, plant and land science, and agricultural mechanics skills will be the focus of the curriculum. The selection and planning of a supervised agricultural experience program and related record keeping will be presented. Leadership development will be provided through FFA. Students will receive personal guidance and counseling with preparatory instructional program selection.

Prin. Of Ag. Course Standards:

Students will:

1. Demonstrate employability and social skills relative to the career cluster.

2. Develop a supervised agricultural experience programs including use of record keeping.

3. Explore basic agricultural skills needed including: math, communication, and employability skills.

4. Identify and examine general soil and plant sciences.

5. Identify and examine general animal sciences.

6. Demonstrate basic agricultural mechanics and construction skills.

7. Investigate basic environmental, food and fiber interrelationships.

8. Maintain records on supervised agricultural experience program and be able to summarize and analyze results in making financial decisions.

9. Participate in FFA leadership activities which are integrated into the course.

Course Requirements:

1.  Students are expected to memorize and recite the FFA Creed.

2.  Students are expected to plan and carry out a Supervised Agriculture Experience Program.

Materials:

1 inch binder (any color)

Loose leaf paper

Tab dividers (at least 5)

Pencils/pens (black or blue only)

FFA

Students enrolled in agriculture classes are required and encouraged to join FFA, because it is included and taught within the classroom and stated in the course catalog. Dues are $15.00 due by September 18th according to our by laws.

Grading:

o  Students will be graded on a points grading system.

o  Grades will be made up of

ü  Tests/Quizzes: A few small quizzes 2-3 large tests

ü  Participation/Bellringers: 5 bellringers a week, particicpation and projects

ü  Classwork: Any worksheets or group work completed in class and notebook checks.

ü  FINALS: There will be two finals, given in class paper and pencil style.

o  No grades will be weighted more than others, only counted by points.

o  The Campbell County High School grading scale will be used. It can be found in the front of your agenda book.

Participation & Attendance:

Participation within class is a must. Classroom participation is the same expectation, in class content directly relates to hands on activities. Some projects may need to take place at home as well as at school. Please be aware we may be outside during class time, but only on nice weather days.

Attendance is key to knowing what to do daily in class, IF you do have to miss a day check the yellow binder in the back of the “Turn It In” bin to know what activity was missed, the bellringer you missed and any activities will be in this binder under your class period as well.

Late Work will be accepted with a penalty of 5 points a day late.

Extra Worksheets are available if you have lost a sheet those are ½ credit.

Technology

Students

Students are not to take pictures, post pictures, video or post video, text, make a phone call or use their cellular device in ANY way in my classroom that is inappropriate to learning, unless otherwise told they can use them for learning time. IF this is broken their phone will be taken placed in my desk drawer to be retrieved after school.

Every student is required to have an SAE and will be required to keep records throughout the year to report and present a final presentation on their SAE over the year.
