NURSE

ORGANISATION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reports to:Residential Manager, Deputy Manager and Lead Nurse

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:

To deliver the highest standard of individualised nursing and holistic care to all students and residents according to their needs, ensuring that each person has the opportunity to achieve their full potential in the time they are at National Star;

PRIMARY TASKS:

  1. To assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care, liaising with Residential managers, the General Practitioner Nurse Manager and residential team ensuring appropriate, effective and timely health management for all residents
  1. To work in an open and co-operative manner with Both residential team and students, residents and their families, fostering Students independence and acknowledging and promoting their involvement in the planning of their care
  1. To work in a collaborative and co-operative manner with Allied Health professionals Residential team and other internal and external agencies involved in providing care and support to the student/Resident
  1. To ensure that all documentation and individual records are accurate and are presented and maintained in a manner consistent with National Star & Professional quality standards and NMC guidelines
  1. To ensure that all medication is administered safely and correctly and all related documentation is completed in accordance with policy and current legislation To uphold the national star collage policy’s and procedures in reporting medication errors
  1. To support the running of the medical centre if requested to do so.
  1. To act as a professional resource to all National Star staff;
  1. To maintain adequate drug/equipment stock levels to ensure high standards of care and well being.Through active auditing and stock rotation and control
  1. To participate in the active promotion of independence incorporating health promotion and education when appropriate. Working within your own competency levels
  1. Ensuring that you maintain your own professional development working within NICE guidelines and NMC revalidation requirements To undertake training as required by National Star and to meet NMC requirements.
  1. To act as an advocate ensuring that the well being and interests of the student/resident are safeguarded, ensuring all policies and procedures relating to safeguarding are adhered to
  1. To adhere to the organisation "Moving & Handling" policy, including training.
  1. To contribute to reviews of policies relating to health issues as appropriate.
  1. To provide supervision and observations to staff to ensure their competence to administer medication to regularly audit and plan Dp continued development through annual observations,To share clinical knowledge and help with development of others.
  1. To support the Nursing Services Manager with all aspects of ordering medication, prescriptions and GP surgery
  1. To work as an integral part of the residential team, alongside Facilitators to promote the highest level of care possible.
  1. To provide personal care as part of the nursing duties as required
  1. To maintain and improve professional knowledge and competence, considering the implications and application within the residential setting and to disseminate information as appropriate.
  1. To work between all National star sites when requested to do so to meet collage nursing and resident need
  1. Through personal example and action, demonstrate a commitment to equality

  1. Promote the Health and Safety at Work Policy and Procedure and ensure these are implemented effectively within the department
  1. To undertake any other reasonable duties as requested by the Nurse Manager or Director of Support Services and/or Vice Principal and Principal/CEO.

College Nurse
ATTRIBUTE / ESSENTIAL / DESIRABLE
Qualifications / Qualified practitioner registered with the NMC /
  • Teaching qualification
  • Post registration certificate/diploma/degree in relevant sphere of practice

Experience / A minimum of:
  • 1 years post registration experience in a relevant/related sphere of practice
  • Client caseload management
  • Provision of support and guidance to families, carers, nurse colleagues and allied health professionals

  • Knowledge of and involvement with service development
  • Knowledge of and involvement in clinical audit

Skills / Knowledge /
