Katja Beck Kos is a freelance producer and manager in culture with twelve years of experience in the field of performing arts, including dance, theatre, street theatre, and choral music. After graduating in cultural studies, she was in charge of organising and executing, obtaining public funding and PR, marketing and the development of new projects and programmes of Carmina Slovenica and Fičo Balet. She also cooperated in projects of Sebastijan Horvat and E.P.I Centre, Letni oder Ruše Festival, Ana Desetnica and others. Between 2007 and 2010, as a Kulturmanager MOE – scholarship student/alumna of the Robert Bosch foundation she substantially expanded her international network of creators, artists, producers and institutions with an emphasis on contemporary performing arts. As part of this, she initiated the Spielplatz:Theater* project, which “Youth in Action” added to its list of “best practice” projects, and started and carried out the first comprehensive presentation of Slovenian contemporary dance scene Slovenia Moves at the 7. internationalle tanzmesse nrw 2008*, which included, among others, Cankarjev dom, Maska, and Betontanc.
In almost three years of working as assistant programme director at tanzhaus nrw in Düsseldorf, she was introduced to the methods of running and programming one of the biggest institutions for contemporary dance in Europe, was head of productions and residencies and coordinated tours by prominent contemporary theatre performers, such as Jan Fabre, Pina Bausch and many others.
Her wish of returning to Slovenia came true. For the past two years, she has successfully managed the Living Courtyards of Maribor* project, which expanded during its first year of operation and made an impact in the city as well as the broader area, paving the way for urban artistic interventions and community art in Maribor. She is the coordinator and co-creator of the new residency platform – GuestRoomMaribor* and the producer of the Maribor Ana Desetnica Street Theatre Festival at Lent Festival.
She is also active as a municipality council member of her home town of Ruše.
