A Petition from Thos. Malcolm was laid before the meeting of which the following is a Copy:

“To the Members of the Tailor Incorporation of Dundee

Gentlemen

When I applied some time ago to receive the allowance usually given to Old Members, who from Misfortune or other causes are unable to support themselves – I must say I felt disappointed at my receiving one shilling and sixpence per week – it has been my misfortune, not my fault, that I have been reduced in my circumstances, and at my age, sixty one years in September last, and my eyesight being very much impaired, it is impossible I can do much for myself.

-When it is considered that I have gone though all the Offices in the Incorporation- that I spent much time in its affairs, and was very willing to do what I could to promote its prosperity – I do trust that in reconsideration the Incorporation will not only grant the usual weekly allowance, but that they will do so from timeat which I came upon the Roll of Old Members in March last.

I am Gentlemen

Your most obdt Servant

(Signed) Thomas Malcolm.”

The Meeting Resolved that the further Consideration of this Petition be deferred till the meeting for the Decision of the poors money at Whitsunday first when this Petition shall again be read and considered.
