Dear Parents

Welcome back to the last half term of this academic year – it has certainlyflown by incredibly quickly! The children thoroughly enjoyed Arts Week and we hope to have pictures up on the website very soon! These last few weeks promise to be busy and exciting and, as always, we look forward to seeing you in school for different events. This half term’s topic is ‘Jobs People Do’ and you will receive further details about learning activities from class teachers.

Y2 SATs

These standard assessment tests will continue to take place over the next three weeks and will help class teachers determine each child’s end of Key Stage One level of attainment. These levels will be reported to you at the end of the term in their reports. Please ensure that you do not take children on holiday during this time if possible. Many thanks for your support in this matter.

Y1/Y2 Phonics test

This statutory test will be administered between Monday June 16th and Friday June 20th to all Y1 children and to Y2 children who did not reach the required level last year. Again we ask that you do not take children on holiday during this time. We are allowed to administer the test during the following week only for children who were absent the week before, time permitting, and children who are absent will receive a zero score and will be required to take the test next year. The result of the test will be reported to you in the end of year report and children in Y1 who do not meet the required standard will retake the test in Y2.

Class photos

These will be taken on the morning of Wednesday June 11th and we will assume you are happy for your child’s photograph to be taken unless you advise class teachers otherwise.

P.E.

Please ensure your child has a full P.E. kit in school every day, including plimsolls or trainers, so that they do not miss out on playground activities or lessons. All the children have two P.E. sessions a week with sports coaches and regularly children do not have their kits in school. Many thanks for your support in this matter.

Playground safety

Please respect our previous requests to supervise children carefully before and after the end of the school day. We ask that they do not ride bikes or scooters anywhere in the school grounds and do not play with equipment in covered areas outside classrooms. We also ask that you stop children from climbing on top of the playground storage bunkers – they could easily fall and hurt themselves and do damage to the bunkers. Neither should they be permitted to go behind these bunkers where there may be thorny and sharp branches and where they cannot be seen. Again, thanks for your co-operation in keeping your children safe and respecting the school’s equipment.

Summer Fayre

We are holding our Summer Fayre this year on Saturday June 21st from 12.30pm-3.30pm. Please make a note in your diaries! As always we depend on your support to make the event a success! We are asking for donations for our raffle, adult and children’s tombolas and bottle stall. Please send these in as soonas you are able so that they can be sorted by the PTA. We would also be very grateful if you would send in

cakes/savouries for our Cake Stall on Friday June 20th in named and sealed containers. Many thanks in anticipation of your generosity.

Class organisation

In September we shall have five classes again, two reception classes and three mixed Y1/Y2 classes. Class organisation and the number of classes depends solely on pupil numbers and the school’s budget and we are pleased that for another year we are able to sustain five classes rather than four.

It always takes teachers a long time to organise new classes and we always have children’s best interests at heart. We want classes to be of a similar size and of mixed sex and ability. We also try to ensure that children have a change of teacher but in such a small school this may not always be possible. We know it is important for you and your children also to be with friends but it must be remembered, firstly, that the school is very small and friends are never far away and, secondly, that part of growing up is adjusting to new situations and making new friends. It is extremely time-consuming to set up three new classes, taking into account all of the above and children’s individual friendship requests, and moving children once decisions have been made is difficult, often affecting entire groupings. This year we are asking parents to complete the attached slip below with your children at home, giving the names of two friends they would like to be with next year. Please return the slip by Friday June 13th at the latest. We will ensure they are with at least one of these friends in their new class. If you do not return a slip by this date class teachers will make the

decision.

School Uniform

We are pleased to advise you that you may now order your child’s school uniform from Tesco Uniform Easy as well as our current supplier, Screens. The school will normally receive a donation of 5% of sales through Tesco, but for this first month we will receive 20% of sales. There are links to websites for both suppliers on our School Website.
