Job Title:Fundraising Volunteer

Responsible to:Head of Fundraising & Fundraising Assistant

Department:Fundraising

Working as part of the Fundraising team, the job holder will be responsible for providing support to Direct Marketing, Community Fundraising and Programme funding teams.

This multifaceted position would suit a recent graduate and someone who is keen to start their career in fundraising and is looking gain experience across a range of fundraising disciplines including trusts and foundations.

The post is part of the Fundraising Department of Y Care International and is line managed by the Fundraising Assistant.

Other Relationships:

International Programmes Team & Communications Officer.

Job Purpose:

The post-holder will be the Fundraising Assistant across a range of tasks within the fundraising team. These will primarily involve assisting the Fundraising Assistant to develop and grow community fundraising activities and support them in the management of processing donations, donor supporter care and stewardship. In addition, the role will involve researching competitor activity, assisting with outreach activity including researching potential supporters, networks and organisations. The post holder will also assist the programme funding team in researching new funding opportunities and drafting applications.

Main Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of outreach and community fundraising activities to increase supporter participation.
  • Research funding opportunities from Trusts and Foundations
  • Assist withthanking and processing of income from individuals and community groups.
  • Update and log information on current and past donors and future prospects on the Raiser’s Edge database.
  • Assist in responding to phone enquiries and letters from individual donors.
  • Assist with approaches and responses to community fundraising initiatives (e.g. support from YMCAs, fundraising runs etc)
  • Assist with direct marketing appeals and legacy administration.
  • Other tasks as required by the Fundraising Department

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent

Experience

Essential

  • Working as part of a team
  • Working with the Microsoft Office package, including mail merge

Desirable

  • Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge 7and/or a similar database package
  • Writing for communications (e.g. newsletters, marketing materials, fundraising appeals)
  • Experience of community fundraising initiatives
  • Research in a fundraising, marketing, international development or a relevant academic context
  • Experience of working in the voluntary sector
  • Knowledge of International Development

Skills

  • High standard spoken and written English essential
  • Highly numerate and comfortable working accurately with numbers
  • Good proof-reading skills
  • Standard computer usage – outlook/word/excel/databases
  • Polite, friendly and enthusiastic phone manner
  • Attention to detail
  • Confident, personable and friendly, with excellent interpersonal skills

Terms of contract

Salary and hours

  • To ensure that YCI and the prospective post-holder derive the maximum benefit from the voluntary placement, we ask for a minimum commitment of 2-3 days per week for at least 3 months. A salary is not available for this post but Greater London travel (up to Zone 6) and lunch expenses will be reimbursed. Working hours are 7 hours per day, with core hours between 10am and 4pm, and one hour for lunch.
